Here are some of my crocus this year. Actually, it's about all my crocus this year. I need to plant more!
Nifty, I think you would get more photo submissions if you put this thread or a new one on the main Index page. Having it buried under Feedback/Announcements makes it invisible. I knew you...
Okay, I'm back. Saw dascountry at BYC today and I felt guilty for not posting here. :/
I have not been inspired at all this year, possibly due to last year's crappy season. Almost no tomatoes, drought, heat wonky spring, I just could not fight them all and win.
I'm buying tomato plants this...
I think I already got hit by a mild frost. I've got crispy cucumber leaves after one night hit 43 and another hit 41. There were no frost warnings so I was totally unprepared.
I've got a pumpkin turning orange. I also think I may have had a mild frost 1-2 nights ago. My cucumber leaves are curling up and looking crispy. *sigh* There was no warning.
I've canned 8 pints of dill pickles, been slow getting enough to do another batch. Eating lots of zucchini and cherry tomatoes. Not much ripe in regular ones, bad year for them up here. How is everyone else doing?
We've got a 98 foot deep well with a submersible pump down around the 60-70 foot mark. There's a hydrant at the well head and I just run hoses from it to the garden. No other pumps in use. Maybe that's why the last well pump only lasted a couple of years. Or not because the previous one lasted...
And it just kept raining! Almost out of here now, but my coffee can outside has more than 3 inches of rain in it and a different can that I set up only late yesterday afternoon has about 1.25 inches in it. My 1/8 acre pond was down more than 2 feet, there was only about 6 inches of water at the...
The gardens at the house I've got hoses run to. I think my big problem this year is poor soil. The new garden is dug out of the old swamp where DH cut down trees this spring. The soil is very acidic and the compost I had to drop in each hole just wasn't enough to compensate. Still hoping DH can...
Dang Bobbiee, you done GOOD! You may have to provide some tips on how to grow stuff in these hot dry summers. Fertilizers, watering techniques, varieties, I tried a small watermelon and it only barely flowered last week. No water melons for me this year. Heck, I've never been able to grow one...
We finally got a bit more rain up here, a bit less than a quarter inch if I can judge by the coffee can I left outside. It's got a lumpy interior so it may be more like an 1/8th. I'm hoping for more. I guess the lower half of the state got a nice dumping. Lucky stiffs.
I still only have one...
Ah, Queensland must be in the north, like Florida is in the south. I've escaped to Florida in the winter, much warmer and not as stifling hot and humid as it gets in the summer. Always wanted to visit your country, seems I'm pretty much stuck in the old USA though I have popped into Canada once...
And a daylily from last year. This year's drought really did a number on my gardens so I've got no good photos this year.
There's a tiny little bee inside.
Keep talking about cukes, I'm looking for new varieties to try next year, so far I've gotten maybe one off of each variety of pickler. One alibi, one boothby (sp?) and one something else (I need to check my drawing.) I probably ought to go pick them now before they get any fatter but my back...
I found a 2/5 inch diameter pumpkin today! How I missed it before I'll never know but at least I ought to get at least one this year now. Still only can see 2 other 1/2 ones out there. Not very good for 7 hills of 2 plants each! Looks like I have 3 cukes and a zuke ready to harvest today, too...
I forgot to mention, got woken up around 12:40 this morning to the sounds of thunder and some nice rain! No idea how long it lasted but the deck was solidly wet and if it's too light the rain won't reach through the leaves of the front maple tree. So I won't have to water the big garden today. WOOT!
HI and welcome. :frow Post anywhere, no real hard and fast rules, just be nice to others. Queensland is very far away from Michigan, must be chilly there this time of year?
While I was downstate with my GFs DH said we got a 4 hour soaker. There were actual puddles when I got home the next day. But it all just soaked in and the stream is still dry as is the swamp and I will have to water the garden yet again.
I did pick my first pickling cuke today, another yellow...
