Oh no, don't ever throw them away!!! I have a Celebrity tomato that the kids broke as they brought it out to me. I planted that baby anyway. She'll be late but I know she has a great (GREAT) root system so she'll send up a new start and we'll still get Celeb tomatoes this fall.
Oh no, my bad. I saw the dreaded words Miracle Gro and just assumed that she meant the potting soil. I can't imagine that their seed starter would be BAD per se, but I've never used the stuff so can't say.
You should start with a seed starting medium specifically for starting seeds. It has zero nutrients in it and gives them a slower start so they'll develop good root systems. You're giving them too much fertilizer if you start them out in miracle gro and they grow too fast and get leggy that...
Yea!!!! We got the kids busy and Greg and I put ALL the tomatoes into the ground last night in the greenhouse. While he was digging holes for the maters I put several hills of squash and cukes and melons into the garden. All that's left to do is the hanging peppers, hanging cherry tomatoes...
I guess if you live in an area where you get lots and lots of rain you're going to want to so this in an area where you get good drainage but in high desert area those little valleys keep the water right there where I need it.
The melon will tell you when it's ready to be picked. DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE THEM ONCE FRUIT HAS SET. LOL! That way when they're ready the bottom will be pale yellowish white and the stem where it connects to the melon will be dry and brittle and easy to break. Most of my heritage melons take...
The mistake most people make with three sisters is to plant the corn in rows instead of hills. If you plant the corn in hills and wait for it to get big enough to support the beans before planting them and keep those melons or cukes in the valleys between the hills you'll have a great crop. A...
That's cool!!! I actually ordered some Praying mantis and lady bugs a few years ago. Didn't think they'd survived but last year it seemed like we found them everywhere when we were out in the garden so I'm very happy.
Another thing to remember is that you must turn the light OFF at night. They need that rest time to thicken up a little. I used to get some leggy babies but as soon as I put the lights on timers that stopped.
Oh, I see people wearing them all the time-looks just fine to me. I just hate mine.....it's like wearing sweat pants, I know they look awful but I wear them when I want to be comfortable but I'd probably curl up and die if anyone ever saw me in them. Again, I see people wear them all the time...
That's what I've got too. I hate those things with a passion and wouldn't be caught dead anywhere in public with them but by golly, when it comes to doing chores for the horses, chickens, or going in the garden those things are worth MY weight in gold. And they don't slip which is a huge plus...
I'd add some lavender, Rosemary and maybe some valerian and milk thistle. I'd put some berry plants, raspberries and elderberry especially somewhere around the herbal tea garden because nothing make chamomile more appetizing than some dried raspberries and of course we all know about the immune...
I think the heating is like a pasteurization sort of thing. They often worry about the bacteria that might be on the herbs that you put in the vinegar which is why they tell you should actually use herbal vinegars and not let them set forever because they will go bad. I figure anything put in...
Well, one way is to fry up a little bacon, take the bacon out and crumble it up. Put some apple cider vinegar and a little sugar into the bacon grease and heat it up while stirring until the sugar is melted. Pour over dandelions, dandelion greens, a little spinach if you have it and wilt...
