The seeds came with some additional information, but I don't know what some of it means.
One of them is Vaccinium darrowii (southern highbush blueberry)
The instructions say
Surface sterilize the seeds (how?)
Sow om paper moistened with ultrafiltered water (where do I get that?)...
As part of a project, I got the USDA to send me some seeds for two plants that grow wild where I live. I would rather have gotten transplants or bareroot bushes or something, but all they could send me was seeds.
The thing is, in the past 10 or 15 years, the population of these plants has...
I'm guilty of a little computer break, too. HAHA
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
We are having thanksgiving over at my mom's today. But we five women (my mom, her sister, my sister, SIL, and I) will all be contributing a substantial amount of the food.
I'm making 3 loaves of bread, deviled...
John actually made a request of me as far as my gardening goes. After canning some 20 jars of quince jelly (which he will not touch because he hates quince, even tho the jelly doesn't taste like quince) he asked me how come I didn't make any apple jelly. I told him it is because I didn't get any...
I was just brainstorming...
Obviously, you can buy any number of different potted plants at walmart for ten dollars. And that doesn't require any imagination. So, I will assume you wanted to do something different...
Seems like you could take a good sized plastic or Styrofoam cooler and put...
You mean something edible or just anything?
For non-edibles, I have some Christmas cactus that is very pretty (getting ready to bloom right now) and some schefflera (sp) and a peace lily.
If you wanted edibles... hmm... well, any number of things if you had a big enough box of dirt, I guess...
Oh, this thread is bound to change a lot now that the weather has gotten cold. LOL
For garden attire, I will wear anything except my other work clothes (the ones I wear to the office.) Honestly guys--I guys, I slum around the house so frumpy looking that on the extremely rare occasion that we...
Ohhhhhh. See it makes so much sense when Y'ALL say it. LOL (I told you I know nothing about strawberries.)
I did pile some fluffy dried birch leaves on top of my multiplyer onions, though. They don't densely pack. They are big light leaves that I have to rake back over there every time we have...
I am fine with them hibernating over the winter! :) I got them from a local freecycle neighbor while she was thinning hers. And the good old internet said plant them in the early fall (which I did.) And they have sprung up and gotten lots of new green in the last month.
I will try to cover them...
Ok, it's going to be 25 degrees F tonight. I have some strawberry plants growing in plastic soil bags outside (they are doing quite well actually)
What do I do with them
THINK FAST!
LOL
Should I cover them up with leaves or something? :/
Cassandra
Weeellllllllll.... the bin at the feed store said multiplier onions. LOL And I got a bag full scooped out of that bin. So that was no help.
From what I have been reading, i am pretty sure they are also known as Shallots.
I went ahead and planted them today. I cleaned out some previous beds...
Well, looky here. I made some quince jelly. (Not with the wormy ones. With my own ones. :lau )
http://thinkersrock.blogspot.com/2008/10/quince-jelly.html
It turned out nice.
Hey, share your quince syrup recipe! I bet it'd be good on waffles, too. mmmmm

Oh, it is just a running gag. :) I really hate the taste of tarragon. (It tastes like root beer and licorice, both of which I detest!) :D
I'm afraid I may have managed to kill it this year. It's looking awfully bedraggled. It does have a little yellow flower on it, though. I'm going to be...
I just posted a blog about this. It's the darndest thing. I have looked like crazy and not figured out what it is. Would you check out the mystery bush?
http://thinkersrock.blogspot.com/
I much appreciate it.
Cassandra
I have bought quince at the store a couple of times. It's just not quite the same, you know...
PM me your addy and I will send you a couple. If I can afford the international shipping. They prolly weigh a pound or more each! :D
Do you ever eat them raw? That's the only way I have ever had them...
