From Hattie's link:
Hmmm, now, could we possibly extrapolate from that statement that the majority of the world is feeding themselves from small, non-industrial based farms? But I thought we needed all this new-fangled GM garbage to feed the world! What could possibly be the real truth?
Bee, I've ordered from them for years, last year was the only year I had problems with them, but they were major. Hopefully they've straightened out. Their seed selection is excellent and I had no problem with germination and/or growth. My fingers are crossed for you! :)
They have great assortment and prices but I had a terrible time with delivery from them last year - fingers crossed for you that you get your seeds in a timely manner!
They have to come up with some high-minded mental gyrations to come back around to homekeeping being a good, legitimate way for women to live. Gotta love it. But thank you, Steve, for posting this. It's good to know things might come around to some kind of sanity again - living well without...
Seedcorn, you are taking this way too personally. Let's accept that you don't practice the horrible methods that others in the agricultural industry are practicing. No one is saying you do. So keep doing it the right way and quit defending those who don't. Because you claim they don't exist...
The book is awesome, I read it when it came out - and I have no problem with his message, because it brings awareness to all of the problems with our food supply. Dickering over 'mostly plants' misses the whole picture that's presented in the book. Our food is no longer raised in a manner that...
We all can have opinions, as consumers, and we do - the companies that are selling us lousy products are now aware that we are aware, and it's scaring the begeebers out of them. That's why they're so strident in their objections to the information that's coming out. We need to keep telling...
Misconceptions result from interpretation, since you are absolutely in the big-ag tank, of course you're not going to agree with or even consider seriously anything that says otherwise. I can and do scoff at your 'sources', too, because they are all bought and paid for by Big Ag. So there's...
There is false info on both sides of any issue. One of the biggest falsehoods being thrown around in this issue is that we 'need' RR crops to feed the world. That isn't true, and it's being proven over and over in studies all over the world. There is a lot of verified information in this...
Oh, please, Hattie, it's a good thing clotted cream is hard to come by on this side of the pond, or I'd weigh 300 pounds! I've had it, in a lovely little tea shop in a little town called Leigh-on-Sea, it was to die for! And thanx for the scone recipe, I collect them (I need to make some, too!).
Thanx for the info, HD, especially for the golden castor sugar, I think I can buy it from a local cake supply house. According to this Ochef article about double cream, double cream has way more fat than our heavy cream:
So, I might try heavy cream, or, if you read further down in the...
Hattie, great site. I'm comfortable with converting measurements and sizes, oven temps, etc. but some of the ingredients are totally foreign to me - what is single cream? Double cream? Golden castor sugar? Do you have a good site that offers definitions of these different (yet no doubt...
