I don't buy seed garlic, I plant the stuff from the grocery store, since it is cheaper. It grows fine for me and tastes good. If you're concerned about chemicals, you could buy organic garlic bulbs at a health food store.I buy the whole bulbs, then break them up and plant them in the fall/winter...
That's hopeful...
These were not really established yet, they were bare root plants (they started sprouting in the package) and were only in the ground a few days when they got snowed on. Will that matter?
It rained for 24 hours prior to the snow also, so the ground froze pretty solid for...
Interesting, Hattie. Your row covers must be different from what most people here use, I've only seen solid plastic sheets as row covers. I bet something like your fleece would help my other problem too, which is the birds eating all the seed before it sprouts, they just tear through bird...
My goats are still super fuzzy, which is a good thing because we got an unexpected overnight SNOW in what should be our springtime here in the desert. I've got all the poor new babies wrapped up in sweaters and sleeping in my bath tub!
NORMALLY, our weather is spring-like after the beginning of February, and it's the time to get stuff planted and sprouting before it gets too hot. I put in 40 bare-root strawberries, they were just starting to sprout out, and less than a week later we got a surprise snowfall overnight! Since it...
So, I planted them. We were supposed to have a couple of days of rain, so I planted right before, thinking it would be perfect, rain is the best watering system for new seeds!
And....it didn't rain. It snowed.
She does look to have a little game in her, by the tail. She could be barred Rock and Old English Game or American game. Game mixes are neat birds, lots of personality to them.
Really, your tomatoes do fine with temperatures in the upper 30s? That usually killed them when I lived in Colorado.
We have a real problem here with the weather changing dramatically and suddenly. Two weeks ago it was 15 degrees, and then literally overnight it became springtime weather. It...
They do take forever to sprout, I've noticed that!
I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth planting them yet or I should wait...it isn't getting any colder than 48 degrees at night anymore, and it's in the upper 60s in the day. I always end up waiting too long thinking it's not warm enough...
They are good sauteed with a little butter, garlic, and lemon juice.
You can also substitute them for cabbage in cole slaw, egg rolls, or whatever you use cabbage for.
