Hello,
I have a couple large planters probably two to three cu ft. And I want to put some sort of flowering tree type thingy ma jig, in them. I wanted to plant rose trees but was told they would not do well in containters. I need something that will withstand being left outdoors year round...
Okay then what should I be applying to keep the catapillars from eating my plants?
I heard the DE was a great soil enhancer and for blooms. So is it okay to apply just to the soil aorund the plants to keep the nasty bugs off?
I love my lady banks. I was at the nursery a few weeks ago and he had two started on trellis, they were not doing so great and he gave them to me, they are now doing great. I was a blessed lady that day, They are gorgeous roses.
Thanks for sharing the pics.

Hi everyone.
I found a product that may be a much better alternative (maybe not) but check out the Woodgrain fiber cement siding. It is water resistent, comes in many sizes, I just saw it for $7.24 for a 12 foot board 8 14 inches wide.
COuld be a very good alternative.
I priced out trex a...

I am not certain but I hope someone will come on and say that it is safe to spray or sprinkly DE (Diatamacious earth) human grade directly on the plants.
ANyone know for sure?
What about sprinkling it driectly on the soil as well, any benefits?

Are you having a bad day or are you just searching the site so you can correct any terminology that isn't just quite right? I agree that warped and floppy are two different things. Happy Now?
The point I was making and the builder confirmed is one cannot use trex without supporting it...
Thank you for the update on how you built your beautiful planters with Trex. You confirmed my earlier point that usless supported by wood posts, it would warp and not hold shape. I could not get past using non treated wood ( not opposed) just thought using anything else was defeating the...
Yep bought some from Hone Depot where they carry both Vermiculite asbestos free and perlite in small bags as well as 3.5 cu ft bags.
I have more sandy soil so the vermiculite is the way I went.
thanks
If one was going to grow brocolli in the square foot method. How many plants to a foot? I bought some and there are nine of the darn things in the container. And I do not want to give up 18 of the squares to Brocolli. :o
Laughing I guess I need to build another box. I found more berries...
Hi nifty. Do you use the one third mixture he suggests in your boxes?
I just bought some vermiculite to add to my soil. Can't hurt. I have just worked too darn hard on this batch to disgard it for his recommended compost vermiculite and compost blend. lol
Stubborn lady I guess.

well I was reading the square foot garden and he uses it along with peat moss and compost and nothing else. So I thought about adding it to my soil to help retain moisture and keep things loosen up. Just curious if others do this or go strickly by his method of one third of the three prior...
Hi, I just bought a steer poop compost blend. It says for veggies and flowers. Can I add this to my planter boxes and plant veggies immediately or should I give it some time to do its stuff?
Thanks allot guys. And I apologize for all the newbie questions, but this is fun.

Okay Pat I grab a handful and made a ball it slightly crumbled but held shape. I then squeezed my hand shut and it did make a longer roll but as soon as I tried to roll it between my palms it crumbled.
So what would you make of that? Laughing you probably are thinking what a dirt dummy. ;)
Hi, I want to have my soil tested. Do I have to take a sample in someplace to have this done. Or can I buy some sort of testing strips that tell me the same thing?
I need to tests some trees I planted in tubs, as well as the soil I am putting into my raised beds.
Please help advise a newbie...
