my mom used to keep parsley and a couple other herbs inside. They are pretty easy and when you have to cut them you can freeze them and they grow right back.
i have a hearty ivy around my mailbox, my gram has it growing up one of her trees. I dont think it really dies in the winter, still stays green. Im going to say its english ivy but Im not sure.
Ive been looking for the same thing but I decided to go with fast growing norway spruce for summer shade (my big shade chestnut has termintes and will have to come down) and wind break

Did anyone see this article in Mother Earth News in July? There is a small write in regarding it this month and the guy says he has been using the same bags for 7 years. Just hand tills and fertilizes and adds peat moss every year. Sounds interesting, I may try it next year...
some of the biggest pumpkins Ive grown were accidents. Leave the whole pumpkin to rot and seed. We had pumpkins out, got frost and snow before we got them in, they rotted where they were and I guess the pumpkin is good fertilizer because the ones that grow are always bigger than the one that...
question, are your peppers close to your tomatoes? I learned a lot about companion planting. Tomatoes and peppers dont do good together and you will get small peppers.
zinna seed from a flower pot and marigold seed from those planted in my garden from last years seed, and from the large patch that reseeded its self in last years garden. I want to do wild flowers in the edge of the field that the lawn is taking back. Im hoping to reclaim that part of the yard.
i tried the homemade traps and only caught a few. I resorted to spray. I have seen traps though that are nice looking

all i got in this year was tomatoes due to a back injury. next year I will put in what I wanted to do this year, peas, much more corn, lots of pumpkins (4-5 varities) clover for the chickens, potatoes, cucumbers, watermelon and another apple tree or two.
ive always split them where the new foliage is and planted them like that, Im not sure about a bare root (?) I do know they duplicate quickly and you dont need to plant them too deep. This is the right time of year and dont be suprised if they dont flower for a year or two Im planning on...
i worked at an orchard for several years, they kept them in a dimly lit cooler room. The average person doesnt have access to something like that but a cool dry dark place is best.
well im closing the chapter on these tomatoes. No problems growing them but the weather here just didnt cooperate. They never ripened fully. I have yellow grape tomatoes that finally came on all at once but Ive given up for this year.
I dont have a photo but I do something similar. I take the terracotta pot and a saucer a few sizes larger, turn the pot upside down and glue the saucer to it , right side up. The pot makes a base for the saucer. Its very simple and looks great, Ive painted them and sprayed sealer on them for...
my gram doesnt can soup but its very easy to make soup from juice. Just add a little sugar, salt pepper and what other seasoning you like and heat. I make cream of tomato by adding some milk and butter before heating.
