In the spirit of recycling, what garden project are you most proud of?

I don't know if it was intentional, or subconcious, but I can definitely see the, for lack of better word, theme, associated with each focal point. Now here's all you do. Advertise that you will do this, on an exclusive basis, for select clients, and then recycle all the time; and make good...

Look at what I got in this pretty vase....

Well, the flower matches the lettering! :D I can't talk, I put flowers in everything I can get my hands on in the spring, when I'm overrun! :) Pretty, thanks for sharing! :happy_flower

    Update on my garden

I'm sorry to hear about the losses in your garden, Soybean, that's a shame. Yes, you allow them to go to seed. But to be honest, you have so few, why don't you just enjoy your carrots, and buy a new pack of seeds in the spring? I have a thought on you building your soil. Why don't you go and...

That's good to hear! :) If it were me, I'd just let them do their thing. :happy_flower (Uhm, don't feed them!) ;)

Potatos are out of control......can I cut back?

Hi, Adondro! I hope the smoke's not been too bad down there! What did you plant them in, soil-wise? Did you give them compost? Have you been feeding them?

    Eggplant experts out there?

They start having problems under 55, though just with pollen. When they are establishing as a plant, they seem to chill easily, but once mature can handle chillier nights better...as long as the days are warm. Our nights had been warm, but an offshore front came in, and it got down to 50...49...

When to start cool season crops?

Dace, I lived in Southern California most of my life, before moving up here, and you can plant most of them in September. Mind you, conditions may be harsher in any given year. If it stays hot a really long time, things might bolt. But generally, for you, September is about right. :) (I don't...

    Aspargus beds

I've learned something, Kate. Don't put off planting because of something which may happen, or even will for sure. If you will be there for 2 years, you'll get a few spears, and then be doing well by the 3rd/4th year. If you move, you can start a new patch, and hopefully whoever moves into...

Can string beans be planted now?

The green beans we grow are between 70-90 days to maturity. There are lima beans. Dried beans take longer. Bush beans are pretty fast, 50-60 days for the varieties I'm familiar with. Good luck! :)

    Eggplant experts out there?

It won't hurt to hand pollinate; I use a little brush. How have your night time temperatures been? At least the flowers are pretty! :)

    Watering Question

Bills, you said this is unusual for you, so I thought you might like a tip for your well. Run the pump in the early morning in order to get the most water for your use. It's been dicey here, on and off, with our drought, and we don't even try to get water at other times of the day when it's a...

    new on everything

They can actually take high water, as long as it's just during dormancy, and the soil is otherwise well drained, as we have 13 over-100 year old trees at the edge of our big creek, on a flood plane. One thought is to plant on a north facing area. Because of where our trees are located, they...

    Sugar free recipes to share?

I'm glad you'll be able to sleep tonight, Pat! :) Blurose, thank you for the link! Punkin, I completely misunderstood! I'm sorry for hijacking your thread. Well, I made up a good bread/cake which is mostly sweetened by fruits, but you can add a little sugar to taste if you like. Start with...

    Parsley recipes wanted, also GINGER

I almost forgot my secret barbeque sauce ingredient. When I make chicken smothered in barbeque sauce in the oven, I put slices of fresh ginger between the pieces of chicken before pouring the sauce over, and baking. :)
