You don't worry about icky racetrack goo getting into the soil? Or do you just use for non-edibles? Why do you turn it inside out?
PS: I can't help but notice that handy-dandy cart with the brand new wheels! ;)
Yeah, try different times of the day, it depends on how the sun hits them. It might be later in the morning for you. I say morning 'cause that's when mine open. I've never actually looked at the clock. ;)
:yuckyuck :lau :gig
I wouldn't be surprised if my DH ends up in it, too. Especially if you put Genny Cream Ale in it, I don't know WHY he likes it so much - maybe 'cause he went to college in Rochester.
Me too! And it gets me in trouble with DH. "What are you doing now? Why are you planting that? Do we really need that right now?" :barnie I wish he would just let me do my thing. :tongue
:th :bow :clap
I'm stunned. I think your yard is gorgeous! It has everything I want for myself. Formal, informal, a woodland garden, a veggie garden... and chickens and bees, too, right? :love
LOVE IT. :thumbsup
Edited for spelling. It's late.
How about that. The only time I've ever been to Hickory I got totally lost (those streets are all named the same!). A friend of mine just moved up to Hickory, and my two other friends are from there.
Beautiful area!
They hired some heavy machinery to dig the initial hole, but after that, it was all done by hand. I believe they started this project the year they built the house (aso their own design), which was 1990. Every year they added on more. I hadn't been back in a long while, and I was so enamored...
I just finished making a small planter box out of a wood pallet. I put it in one of the only areas that is all shade in my yard. I can't keep anything alive in this corner because the dogs trample it if it's in the ground, hence the planter box. I have two more pallets and I plan on building two...
:welcome from SC.
You'll have to let me know how you like it, I've never grown nor eaten patty pan!
By the way, how did this end up happening, were they mislabeled or did you grab the wrong ones?
Well, I did plants this year. I have tried seeds three years in a row and I just haven't had luck. It's totally my fault - the first time we put them in the ground in an area that ended up being too shady, the second time I left them outside and they flooded in one of our torrential spring...
Huh, I've done all that and they just keep on shriveling up on me. I will have to try again I suppose. :) I didn't try any this year 'cause I can't stand the heartbreak. :/
Thanks for the info!
Yay, you found them! :D You need to pollinate them so the fruit grows bigger than what you see. At this point, pollination has not happened.
Go out early in the morning when all the flowers are open. Take a small atist's paintbrush with you. Get some of the pollen off of the anther (big...
Catalina,
tell me more about your columbine. Was it grown from seed or plants? Where do you have it planted (shade)? What are its water needs?
I don't have any luck with columbine, but it's one of my favorite wildflowers, so I'd like to know what I've been doing wrong.
I think it depends on where he hatched out. Remember, they start as tadpoles, so if he was in a contaminated pond, it's likely that that's the reason he has a gimpy leg. I definitely think it's a deformity and not an injury.
Another tip: if they are just starting to flower, you may not have any female flowers yet. They start out with a bunch of male flowers, then the female flowers follow a little later. There are also more male flowers than female flowers.
I don't have the space for this, but when I finally put in my pond, I am going to use my cousin's as an inspiration. This started years ago as a large hole in the ground with a large pond liner and some gravel. It's absoutely gorgeous now. I'd probably go a less-formal route, but I love the feel...
Mhhh! I think that's going to be next on the list. I've made a plethora of zucchini dishes this past week, but no bread yet. Ooooh, I want some right now! :ya
