So far that one's the farthest ahead growth wise. There are a few that the tassels are starting to come up on, and yet no signs of corn anywhere on the stalk. I've never done corn before so I'm hoping that I'm just overreacting and that it's still too soon for the cob/silk to appear. Denial...
There is a story there... there are 2 of those raised bed boxes right next to each other. New this year. After we dug them in there was about a 6 inch patch on all sides that was just dirt. My boyfriend who built the boxes was slightly horrified that I was planting an entire one of corn...
Ok I have the powdery pollen on the tassels... and ..... NO EARS OF CORN OR SILK OR ANYTHING. Really.
Sorry the corn pic is dark, got sidetracked taking pictures this afternoon and forgot so just went out in the dark to do it.
You're also welcome to post some pictures when you get your garden up and running, even if the contest is over - I'd like to see your setup. And I love pumpkins!
Not sure that it's a breed thing cause I have the same problem with one of my hubbard squashes!! Seems like I remember pulling the flower off as it dried, but that fleshy part didn't come with it like it usually does. I've had a lot of dampness here so I've been removing the flowers when able...
Sorry for the late response...
We FINALLY got some sun here, so things are looking good. I had no idea one was supposed to fertilize onions to get them to be bulbous, I had read to not fertilize them because you'll get a strong oniony flavor. So here's them just a few minutes ago, still nice...
Your cabbage looks all right to me, I'd leave it. But I'm still trying to fathom what exactly one would do with a gargantuan cabbage. All my thoughts keep turning to sulfurous malodorous thoughts.

I'd leave it says the girl with this in her garden:
Never grown corn myself until this year (I try to do something new each year). I have some "Early and Often Hybrid" corn growing - package says 64 days and a height of 6 feet. My corn had a rough start thanks to really bad purchased soil that had almost no nitrogen in it. Now that I've corrected...
Glad you guys like her, she's a speckled sussex. She has a great back story, when I got her as a chick in the mail (with 30 others) she had a broken leg from shipment. I had to give her a cast and separate her from the others and give her chicken PT, but she survived. She's a bit odd and a...
Don't forget if you want to join us you need to state clearly so on this thread by the due date, August 1st.
I'm doing ok here, still not the best of weather. Still have a large amount of cucumber beetles, but less than earlier.
Got a couple pumpkins growing. I've been keeping a very close...
Don't worry about it... like I said, I've got one baseball sized (not even softball) rouge vif d' etampes. Just keep pluggin' along with the rest of us!
Maybe someone will do well and share their secrets (it's probably moving to a more suitable climate!)
The rules of the contest are updated in post 1, but it ends 15 October. That's when everyones pictures/weights/measurements are due in. Sorry I missed your post earlier...
