    Rescue a mini rose

When you see these live miniature roses being sold at the big box stores as gift baskets don't forget to buy one. It's one of the best deals out there. They usually have anywhere from 2-5 individual rose plants growing in there. When you buy them it's very easy to separate them and replant them...

    Yellowing leaves on tomato seedlings

Here is an update. I put potting soil around all the seedlings and used a weak fertilizer mix and my seedlings have made a complete recovery. By next year I hope to have a small greenhouse completed and I will be able to fulfill one of my dreams of offering and selling Heirloom seedlings and...

    9 month old watermelon

Taste is still something I am working on. I am buying a refractometer for sugar tests on the melons after the storage.

    9 month old watermelon

Temperature was around 65°-70° but I am a long way from having success. The stored melons lost a lot of taste when they were stored. This is my 4th year of growing and selecting. The seeds I selected for this year came from the most productive and shortest vining plants

    9 month old watermelon

Here are a couple pictures of a "early moonbeam" watermelon that is 9 months old. I have been trying to develop a strain from this variety as a long-term keeper. We ate 2 out of the 3 that I saved when they were 2 and 3 months old. We decided to keep one around as long as we could. The first two...

    First blooms of the year

I love rescuing miniature roses from Walmart. They usually have 2 - 4 actual plants in the pots which breaks down to a $1 or $2 with the clearance price.

    2016 Corn Thread

I have decided that this year I am going to grow my sweet corn in blocks of 4 because I just don't have enough seed to plant in conventional rows.

    Yellowing leaves on tomato seedlings

I grow 1 watermelon and 1 other melon and then I have a couple friends who let use some space in their gardens to grow other varieties. I have a watermelon melon left over from last year and we are going to cut it open and see how it fared.

    2016 Corn Thread

I am planting Zola's rose ultra sweet corn. It's a new variety of open pollinated sweet corn that is red. I got the seed from J&L gardens. They mainly focus on tomatos but are branching out into other OP crops.
