    Found ACV with mother

Hi Monty, If you are having any issues with pasty butt the ACV will help with that. Also a "treat" of their normal feed with a little finely ground flax seed moistened with plain non fat yogurt will help keep them regular. Hope this helps:)

    First Time Turkeys

It's those wing feathers that have me wondering. In the second picture they stick out from both wings and don't lay flat. I guess time will tell. They sure are growing fast.:)

What Did You Do In Your Garden Today?

Today I gave all the beds a good stirring, added a little organic fertilizer with good microbes and finished them off with some water. It was good to get out and work outside, and boy were there a lot of worms in the beds. Nice to see an encouraging sign of healthy soil. Dug up about 10 gallons...

    First Time Turkeys

Does anybody know if the difference in the wing feathers is any indication of gender? We think the one in the first picture is female and the second picture is male. Any thoughts on this anybody? :hu

    First Time Turkeys

At least one will be rubbed down with a nice BBQ rub then coated with sauce, and another will probably receive cajun injections at least 12 hours before the hot oil therapy.

    First Time Turkeys

I know the males are going to get big quickly that's why I am hoping to keep them with the horses and goat so they have to work a bit for their food. We are expecting to have to butcher some and maybe all of them eventually, and I would much rather spend that time and effort on home raised...

    First Time Turkeys

Hi Lesa, the plan right now is that they will be with the new chicks. After they are bigger I was hoping they could live with the 2 horses and the goat and get most of their food from free ranging. Of course these plans can and probably will change as nature dictates. Fortunately we have the...

    First Time Turkeys

It's time for a new flock of chickens this year as the current flock is four years old. Although they are beautiful and still laying we need more production. A local farm store chain that we used to buy chicks from is now selling them for $5.49 straight run! Since we don't need roosters I...

    Calling all crafty people!

I read somewhere that you can hollow them out and bundle a bunch together and hang out for certain species of bees. Thought about trying that this season. :)

    Ground Kung Pow Chilies

Boy that would be some very interesting coffee. I may try that this year as the food processor did a good job but I would like it ground a little finer, more powder like. Thanks for the tip. :)

    Ghost peppers

Along with the long germination time they also need a long growing season to fully mature. I had two plants last year that produced a couple dozen peppers. Only six of the peppers hung in there long enough to turn red but they lacked the heat they are known for. It might be our cool nights...

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

Now that it's a new year and spring is right around the corner to scratch the planting itch I planted two small trays of micro greens. Basicall a blend of beets, chards, turnips and cabbage. We've been sorting seeds and planning this garden. Spring is just around the corner right???:)

    Ground Kung Pow Chilies

I ended up using about 1 part chili powder to 8 parts salt. It seems to blend well and taste pretty good (not too hot). One unexpected side effect is that after shaking it on food DW and I both sneeze a few times

    Ground Kung Pow Chilies

Our growing season is gives us at least 120 frost free days more often than not. The trouble is that overnight temperatures often get a bit on the cool side ( 45-55). That can make if difficult for some peppers and tomatoes to do their thing. This year we caught a break and all the peppers and...

    Ground Kung Pow Chilies

Finally got around to grinding up the Kung Pow chilies hanging in the garage. After picking off the best ones I put them through a small cheap food processor. This being my first attempt ever I got lucky and it turned out very well. After grinding the whole dried chilies I took about half and...
