So before I replant the tuber you are saying I should cut a piece off and let the larger piece scab over before I plant it? I really don't want to screw this up if it would be of interest to science.
Oh and writing down the parsimonious, you're that is a great word! It's right up there with...
Steve and Marshall, I like how you two think. The people that tell it's impossible for this to happen can't give a reason based on the circumstances, but you two are telling me well it did happen and trying to keep it going is a good thing.
I agree, the potato will be planted and given the best...
This has been very strange. It has been confirmed by a couple of experts that I know that this is impossible. It was suggested that maybe an errant seed or piece of potato got in the bed. I would have notice the non tomato foliage.
The potatoes that I did plant were put in the ground in March...
I asked a friend of mine who does a gardening show on the radio in Denver and he said that even though the two plants are related it would be impossible for this to happen unless the two plants were grafted. Since this plant was grown from seed that isn't possible either.
I still think it's a...
I am happy to hear that you've had some great success! Being new to garden just know that every season somethings will do well and others will not, we are all at the mercy of the weather and other curve balls that Mother Nature throws at us.
Keeping a detailed journal will be a great help to...
These are some pictures of our tomato plants. The beds are new and nothing has ever been planted in them. They are healthy and as usual for around these parts, slow to set and form fruit.
Shortly after this picture was taken I was savagely mauled and licked.
Has anybody here ever heard of...
That is the best homegrown watermelon I have ever seen, the fact that it is a volunteer makes it even better!
As far as growing it out until October I think you may run the risk of it being over ripe and not good eating. Our best one was over ripe by the time we picked it, from what I have read...
I'll put up some current pictures tomorrow, right now we are getting the two dogs aquainted with the new puppy ( yes pictures of her tomorrow as well). :celebrate
It had no leaves and this bed is new this year. I suppose it's because potato and tomato plants are related? It kind of goes with our hen that crows and the lactating goat that's never been bred. Weird things happen here every now and then. :D
This popped up when I stuck a finger in a tomato bed checking on moisture level.
If we don't get a good crop of tomatoes maybe there will be a few more of these. Very strange indeed.:)
There appear to hairs in the scat and that makes me think it could some kind of predator. The foxes around here have a strange habit of leaving their calling cards in very obvious places as to let you know they were there. The strangest one I ever saw was in our goats grain dish. Weird! :)
It was late August by the time they were ripe. There were only five of them, but they were larege and wonderful. We are going to keep trying regular tomatoes unit we crack the code on having resonable success. Until then we sort of rely on cherry and pear varieties to have enough for salsa and...
Pretty much all of last years tomato plants were very sick from over watering, but there were a few Amana Orange and Pineapple tomatoes that made it.
I must say the few Pinapple tomatoes were the best tasting, so we plaqnted some more this year in hopes of having some to make hot sauce and...
