Yes, the price seemed ridiculous to me but he was the number the city gave me. (He wasn't going to repair anything) When I wanted to have a skunk family moved out from under our back house, the cheapest I could find anyone to do it for us was $275 per animal. We decided to just live with them...
I'm glad someone posted about bees. I have a bee hive, they moved in about 4 months ago, and was worried about my 5 year old's safety. I called the city to see what they said and they told me that I had to have it removed by a professional because it was in my backyard and not on public...
Wonderful garden and nice looking chickens!! Can't wait to see more photos of your harvests. What a wonderful field. The view out my front door is houses and just beyond the houses the skyline of Los Angeles. I much prefer your view. Someday......
I keep playing the lotto with my fingers...
and I thought it was just my chicken manure that was getting my tomatoes to grow so well this year. I've put a lot of coffee grounds into the compost and used it as mulch. Yeah!!
How wonderful that you are giving it a go. You'll find that gardening can be very rewarding and believe it or not, relaxing. Don't give up. I've made many mistakes but have only learned from them. I'm also very happy to have found this forum and the backyardchicken forum. So many likeminded...

Thank you, Thank you!! I feel a little intimidated by them. They are now starting to bend over and it does feel like they are reaching for something or someone......
Maybe a little less chicken manure next year. :)
Thanks for the great advice. I was having the same problem and thought I had bought cages tall enough. The tomatoes are now about 9 and half feet tall!! (This picture was taken about three weeks ago) I know it's all of the chicken poop in the compost.
I'll go out and get some really tall posts.
This is exactly what my dad did while I was growing up. My siblings and I would have boat races, usually a walnut shell halves, while the rows were filling up. Good memories.
I have raised beds/boxes so can't water in the same way.
I found that if I know it's going to be really hot the next day watering in the evening is better to lessen the chances of leaves getting burned if water gets on them in an a.m. watering. I too water directly at the bases.
