I too was afraid of canning because of all the "blow up stories" but never actually talked to any one this happined to, and if it did it was because of not paying attention. Now the more I can the easier it gets and the more I am interested.

Jim I don't think there is, and I think Grow 4 Food has pretty much answered your question, I just wanted to say that to me the only silly questions are the ones that are never asked.
Do you think that maybe they ment they steralized the jars in the dishwasher? I have read that folks do that, but not canning in one.

Rosalind, is there any way you could post a picture of wormwood for me. I looked and could not find anything but poor photographs. I think I have seen it here but not sure. I do know that I can make the garlic and onion tea. I hate it when we have to use sevin on the tassels.

I do not reuse the lids but I do keep and reuse the rings. Before storeing the jars I remove the rings and wash them, dry them good and save for the next year. Before useing them I check each one for rust or dents and get rid of them if necessary.

These were from the same gathering but appear to be one solid bulb no seperation into cloves that I can see or feel.
