Yum! I would come over to your house just for your leftovers. :gig That sounds wonderful to me.
We don't really have a mustgo recipe . . . so I will be adopting yours post-haste.
Yes I am a garlic lover too.
This was the first year I ever got garlic scapes on my garlic. I had never eaten them before, because I had never had them grow before. Now I love garlic even more! As for why the scapes form . . . :hu I thought it might be because our winter was so darn...
Davaroo -- well, I do water with duck pond water, so I guess that counts as a fertilizer, but I would say a weak organic one because I am regularly changing the duck's water out. Even with the duck water use, I still would have expected a couple of weeks of lag with these peppers and they are...
I am so sorry for your loss, HiDelight. :hit
What is really sad is that these silly birds hide their symptoms from us . . . it is just their nature. Unfortunately we usually do not know they are ill until it is too late.
I am sorry that you had to speed her departure from your garden, but...
Well, you might be luckier than I, BBH, when it comes to morels. If you find something that looks like a morel, you should call one of us to come look at it. :) It would be good to know which ones are edible and how you can make the distinction.
I tried this with some eggplant starts that were sulking and with some neglected pepper plants that I potted up waaaay too late. I would have expected the peppers to sulk after transplanting for at least 2 weeks, but they started to grow a significant amount of new growth in only one week after...
Hey that is cool, HiDelight. I think now that I have seen your photos, that we have the Prince that grows regularly under our pine trees, but all I could figure before was what family it was in, not what it was exactly. I will have to sniff it and see if it smells almondy.
I taught myself...
I like The Vegetarian Epicure. The author published one book in the 60's (?) or so and then a new collection of recipes in the late 90's or early 00's. I have the newer book. There are some wonderful recipes in there. One of them is the fennel bruschetta recipe I talked about on that other...
I usually make a recipe where you carmelize equal parts onion and fennel, then add slices of kalamata and de-glaze with white wine. It is quite good. I grew fennel just for that recipe. :)
Another name for it is serviceberry. I have a few native varieties, but those are not the cultivated ones that have sweeter berries. I have not tasted the cultivated berries.
I always plan that I want to have friends over, but it seems like I always get busy or something comes up every year, so I gave up trying.
Have fun! :coolsun
You know what? I heard the east coast is getting heavier rain events, and will be in the future too. If I were you, I would take this as a warning and build those raised beds as soon as you can.
Meanwhile . . . :hit I am sorry you seem to have lost most of your garden. Even losing a few...
Wow, that bird bath is spotless! ;)
HiDelight, you really need to read the book Enslaved by Ducks (and the sequel, I can't remember the name now). The author describes the dilema of finding someone to care for his menagerie, and he has a great sense of humor. :)
Yes, it is too bad most men are lousy cooks. I too would love to bake a cake for any of you, because I know you would appreciate it! [HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VFEM!!!]
My husband is a descent cook, but he does not bake. :/ Well, in a pinch he would probably make chocolate chip cookies, but that...
