Have I been caught complaining? ;)
Hey, if others can complain about the rain, can't I complain about the sun? Yep, "I start to complain when there's no rain." Anyone remember what song that quote came from? Used to be kinda popular.
So my mom just said that her rhododendrons are looking like they are going to bloom again too. :gig
The plants are telling us that we have perma-summer, but the grocery stores are selling Halloween candy. This is really freaky. :hu
I heard about that! And I thought of you, Wifezilla! Sorry. Though . . . would it be ok if I showed up for a visit? Please? I will bring you some fresh picked heirloom tomatoes! :D
Well, it has been a strange year here in the Pacific Northwest. Winter stayed a little late and then it seems we got swept directly into summer. At least where I live (at about 500 feet above sea level) . . . we had about 2 weeks of normal spring weather and that was it. About now it should...
Pat, I for one am jealous. I have 2 weeks to go, possibly longer. I am ready to let the frosts have at my garden. We had an extra month of dry summer here and I am so tired of it that I wake up and curse the sun. I know I shouldn't. I'm just tired. I want to do other things with my time...
You can eat the onions that flowered, just use them right away because they won't store very well.
If I were collecting seed, I would leave the flower on the plant until the seeds were fully matured and dried. I'm not sure what will happen if you cut the flower before the seeds have formed...
Maybe most everywhere, but not all around the country. We, in the PNW, had the hottest and driest summer on record. It got the tomatoes rolling early for us. It is the first year I have had enough tomatoes to actually be able to can some.
There is something about a pretty container that just makes you want it, whether or not you have a use for it, isn't there? I want those clear top round tins! :P
Reinbeau -- I guess I will have to be more patient! It is good to know that persistence should pay off. :)
HiDelight -- yeah, I live on a relatively high ridge and we do get more extreme weather here . . . colder and hotter, as well as windier, than most other spots around. Plus the soil...
Probably my favorite use for it is using the flowers as a garnish on say a dessert . . . very pretty. You can add the flowers to beverages too. And add the leaves to salad.
HiDelight, please come to my house and teach my borage how to behave like yours do! I only had one volunteer seedling this year. Is it just me, or is it true that if you WANT a plant to spread it won't, and if you don't it will? :P
Let me see what I can do about recipes . . . .
This is the recipe I used for the soup . Originally published in Better Homes & Gardens magazine.
This is the recipe I got from my mom for
Pumpkin Bread
Note: This assumes you have already roasted the pumpkin down and processed the pulp into...
:smack BBH. :gig
Well, I didn't really intend to seek out a small local seed saving company, but I happened across a list of small seed saving businesses on someone's blog a while back, and noticed one was close to me. I think it makes a lot of sense to buy seeds that have been successfully...
