    Overgrown Tomatoes

I guess I shouldn't be so afraid to wade through the tomatoes then, if they are mosquito repellant! :) Thank you for the tip about growing them up twine, curly_kate. I should look into that more and see how it is done.

Tomato Varieties - Planning for Next Year

HiDelight -- you seriously just need a greenhouse. Then you can stop wishing the heat our way!!! ;) Also, picking tomatoes until Thanksgiving (probably longer in your location) . . . you just can't beat that. :)

Hot Stuff! Too many Green CAYENNE PEPPERS! What to do?

Most peppers I have worked with, you can de-seed with a spoon easily enough. I have had luck, even with the small ones. Either that or just wear disposable gloves!

You can also preserve peppers by freezing them. From what I read, you are supposed to cut them in half and take the seeds out first.

    Overgrown Tomatoes

A beer bottle garden! Sounds cool to me. :D How are the tomatoes doing? I have found that a nice unplanned benefit of having a board resting on sawhorses holding the tomatoes back is that I can lean on the board when I need to reach some tomatoes closer to the center of the plant. Now my...

    What would do this?

I'm not sure, but maybe a crow, or other bird, is watching you plant and planning his dinner?

Tomato Varieties - Planning for Next Year

I think my favorite tomato right now is black plum. It looks kind of like a roma, but is a lot more flavorful. They also seem to fruit abundantly and fairly early.

Mulch that chickens don't like to scratch in?

Good call, Hattie. I have noticed that stones can make a nice mulch too.

DH wants to rip out my indian corn!!!!!

You are right, seedcorn, that is why I said "some degree of protection." It wouldn't be foolproof, but sometimes you have to use what you've got. :)

Has anyone given up on carrots?

You could always add compost to the top of the soil after you have planted. :)

DH wants to rip out my indian corn!!!!!

Hi Hattie :frow You are welcome! I am glad you found it useful. I have planted two types of corn before, but since I have a greenhouse, I can plant one type inside and one outside (and a distance away) and expect some degree of protection from cross-pollination. The same principle works...
