Just dry them as seedcorn said until the shells get brittle.
For parched (or roasted) peanuts you can shell or parch them in the shell. Spread out the peanuts on a baking/cookie sheet and bake about 325/350 for about 20 mins. Just keep an eye on them after about 15 mins. Add about 10 mins to...
How far apart? depends on how many you want to try and grow. For just a few, say 6 vines, I would probably make 2 mounds and plant 6 to 8 seeds per mound with the mounds 6 to 8 feet apart. Thin to the best 2 or 3 plants and figure on moving the vines around some. The vines will grow 15-20 feet...
I think most field pumpkins have anywhere from about 90 to 120 days to maturity times...depends on variety. I would just plant them right in the ground this time of the year. If you figure say 110 days, a week to sprout, hmmmm... plant today, pumpkins ready about first week of October? :)
I would include a pippen or 2 in an orchard. I think it is an excellent all purpose apple. Great for eating fresh or cooking. The same goes for winesaps. Maybe add in a gala or fuji or both? Jonathan is another good variety. There's my 5. :)
Hopefully it is something simple...like high temps and/or high humidity. I know I have blossom drop every year due to that. Depends on when it starts as to how good the tomatos do for a particular year. Not much you can do about that 'tho. One idea to help you determine the reason. :)
That is amazing to me! "space" tomatos! I wish him luck on the experiment and with detention make-up as well. Grounded and in outer space at the same time. :lau
They should keep just fine. Put them in a paper bag or if a plastic bag leave it open so moisture doesn't condense inside the bag. I have kept them in the crisper, top shelf, bottom shelf...anywhere there was room to stuff them in. You are going to get to break that new canner in pretty quick...
It depends a bit on what kind of pickles you want to make and how small of a batch you are willing to process. I make mostly bread n butter and pickle relish with a few jars of dills thrown in for good measure. I probably had 18-25 plants last year and that was plenty, ok too much. I would say...
Well, trees on a dam are considered bad. The roots can provide entry for seepage through the dam. Cutting trees that are large can lead to the same problem as the roots die and leave cavities in the dam core. But those cedar roots would probably take 10 or 15 years to rot away. I would probably...
I have the ruby throats here and have been trying to spot a nest for 2 years now with no luck. Extremely well camouflaged as I see the males doing the courtship flights, see the females flying back to the tree after feeding, but can not spot that little nest. I know exactly which tree (or think...
