I did. Once yesterday and then again this morning. It accepted the vote. But I don't have a static ip. How about it vfem? What's the rules? ETA: looks like they are tracking ip's.

Come and Vote For Me on this Blog

Voted bright and early this morning, saw it on BYC. You were in first place with 41 % at the time. Good Luck and keep us posted so we can read your interview. :)

Happy Birthday Boggy! I hope you have a wonderful day and many more.

apple slices that don't turn brown!

I think it is corporatism, but perhaps the specific term you are looking for is planned capitalism. I am looking forward to learning what the term actually is. I am not sure why the choice should be neither, although that is certainly one option. Allow me to restate it. In the context of eye...

apple slices that don't turn brown!

At it's simplest, it is designed to increase commercial profits. From the grower to the shipper to the end user (which is ultimately the consumer, but would include restaurants, food services and individuals) IMO. Yes it is for looks. It is also designed to help reduce spoilage. Shelf life is...

apple slices that don't turn brown!

Well...let me play devil's advocate here for a moment, even though this is way out of my depth. Purely for the sake of discussion. The technology for this was actually developed for potatos. Mr Carter has a license to use it for apples. It is GMO in that it "turns off" a gene that produces an...

    Companion planting tomatoes and herbs

I suggest you grow rosemary in a pot that you can move indoors or to an easily protected location in the winter. I had a very nice plant in a permanent location in the garden I grew from cuttings that survived for about 3 winters, but they were very mild. That 4th year the winter was very cold...

    You Don't Know Dirt

Hmmmmmmmmm, that's kinda funny. I have Direct and get GPB and at 9:00 AM tommorrow I get Sesame street- Elmo Steps in for Grover. That's not exactly the same programming. 3:00 pm is Sid the Science Kid and 8:00 pm is Pick Steves' Medittarranen Mosaic (starts at 7:00 pm). Oh well, I'll have to...

Why leaves REALLY drop in autumn

I agree more research is warranted; there are a lot of variables to consider. Certainly I have more questions than answers. A forest floor is engaged in long term composting. I think we can all agree that the smaller the sizes of the carbon and the nitrogen items that are added the faster they...

    Bitter tomato sauce??

Well I think what we are talking about is the amount of acidity...thats why we add sugar to tomatoe sauces when preparing...oh say spaghetti sauce. You simmer it, take a taste and WOW, that's got a little bite to it. I grab the sugar dish and give a little sweetner to take that bite out. Could...

    Bitter tomato sauce??

What a shame. Sugar might help with that bitterness for sure. A little at a time- add, mix, taste? I think a pinch or two of baking soda instead of sugar will also help, but I can always taste baking soda when I use it in anything, might make it worse. Did she add anything to it when she was...

    bean pot teepee

There are Kentucky Wonder and Blue Lake pole beans and bush beans. They will cross pollinate as well. I think there is a variety named Kentucky Blue that is a cross between these two. If your teepees cross pollinate each other you might invent a new bean- the Kentucky Blue Snake bean!

    bean pot teepee

Well, I was just thinking in terms of you wanting to use this as fresh table fare. To me at least, I tend to think of succession planting in a couple different ways. Lettuce for example, I want to stagger harvest times because there's only so much we can eat and you can't really save it anyway...

    bean pot teepee

I am not sure about 2 beans per week. Why not go ahead and plant the pots and thin to however many is appropriate for the pot size? From the article it seems the author had 8 pots containing a total of 48 plants. But to achieve the same would take about 5 weeks planting 2 beans every 2 weeks and...

    Cranberry Sauce??

I have never tried it but it is certainly worth a try. Nothing to lose but a little freezer space. We eat up the leftover cranberry sauce on turkey, dressing and cranberry sauce sandwiches. Although to tell you the truth I am tired of turkey now. :)

    Bees, wonderful bees!!

Very good info, thank you. Yes it answers my questions, but also makes me think of many others. Harvesting the honey tends to keep them from swarming? Fascinating. No excess food supply, no multiple new queens? I think I will research beekeeping a bit more in depth and decide whether or not...

Kitchen garden tour. TOUR DAY!! 9-3. Bring it!! I am ready.

Nice little pile of char there. I was just re-reading some info on terra preta this morning because I burned a firepile yesterday as well. Must have been a good day for burning yesterday.

    Bees, wonderful bees!!

Okay, this is making me seriously consider bees. Very cool homemade extractor Brian. One of the drawbacks for me is the start up costs. I have plenty of wild bees, but I am not fixin to try and stealing their honey! Lesa you got 39 pounds of honey; that is just a bit over 3 gallons isn't it...
