Hi Steve, my stock is similar to yours, although I do not follow a recipe, and I don't brown the bones before I boil them. I make usually two stock pots of soup a month. Soup is my favourite lunch, my kids take it to school with them, and my dh takes it to work with him.
What I am curious...
I have dehydrated tomatoes many times, and successfully. I cut them into small pieces--cherry tomatoes I would halve, and regular tomatoes, I would cut into eighths. Arrange them on the dehydrator racks and go until they feel like leather. There should be no liquid left in them. I couldn't...
Can you rent a sod lifter? (not sure if that the proper name) It is what sod farms use. We rented one from an actual sod farm, then rototilled, added compost, rototilled, more amendments, rototilled.........
I must admit where I am in my life-- I am just making the garden grow, and obtaining enough livestock to produce enough for my family.
I always hold to the fact that someday, after all the basics are taken care of, there will be time for the crafty side of it. I paln on raising rabbits for...
when we bought this house, the previous owner had tried to grow raspberries ( and failed), but there were tonnes of the green cardboard quart containers. I would probably try contacting an orchard to see whre they get their supply from...
Well, I do have a husband, and he will help me with the barn, the fences, and digging the new garden bed, but all other farm-related stuff is my responibility. He has a full-time job, and this "hobby farm' is my love. And he loves that I love it.
"Chickens, eggs, veggies, fruit doesn't get...
Not so much 'literally' That was just our warped sense of humour getting back atcha! :rose :bun I;m sure your 'book smarts' are gonna come in handy though...
I prefer growing veggies myself, although I'm sure I will get to the flowers eventually--but not this year. Just bought a new house-...
Congrats! The only thing I have planted--was my derriere on the icy sidewalk on my way to the barn. Right now I have planted that sore butt on the sofa. I'd much rather be planting blackberry bushes. :th
Hi Pat, when I lived up north, beaked hazelnuts were a native plant there. I would go out into the bush in the fall and pick them. It is not a particularly attractive shrub, and the picking wasn't so much fun--but my love of hazelnuts won out. Your area sounds like it is similar to where the...
My dh went ice fishing the other day and we have a bucket full of fish scraps. (the perch was yummy, btw) Is there anything I can do to them/with them so I can use them in my garden in the spring?
Where are you? We had a beautiful day here too. got a lot of yard/barn work done today.
Currently, we are working on a rainwater collection system to wate the garden with, and we are making plans to expand our small barn to accomodate more animals.
Already know what I am going to...
Hi CoreyNC, the link shows a pic of chicks in a tote.
I have never container gardened, but all i can say is make sure it is watered well. there are members here who container garden, so I'll bump this up for you
Thanks, Pat. I guess my brain fart occurred b/c I was thinking plant hardiness zones, when I actually should have been thinking along the lines of growing degree days.
And thanks for the links--I'll check them out... :)
