I planted my lettuce gutters yesterday. I put in arugula, endive, spinach, and a couple different lettuce mixes. I also put in a jalapeno I got from the nursery, direct seeded some corn, and transplanted some beans I started a month or so ago.
There are no drain holes in it and the ends are capped. I am more worried about them being too dry than too wet. It gets very hot here so they are likely to dry out too much but we will put in drain holes if it seems necessary at any point.
I made a new thread with pictures of the finished project. I will be planting in them tomorrow. Hurray!

After reading the thread about creative ways to grow lettuce, my fantastic husband went out and got it done without me having to even ask! Here are some pictures of the process and finished product.
We have been looking for something to do with one of the front walls of our house for a few...
I saw this picture earlier today and showed it to my husband. We have been looking for something useful that will look somewhat decorative as well on one of the front walls of our house. He already went out, bought all the supplies, and painted the support posts to match the trim on the house...
About half the pots I had planted have sprouted. I have actually managed to figure out quite a few of them. Most of my blue jade corn sprouted, all of the hidatsa shield figure beans sprouted, some of the ireland creek annie, a few different squashes and one amish paste tomato (at least that...
I do have some stuff coming up in the pots that were drowned. Mainly corn and beans which I kind of expected since those seeds are bigger and didn't get washed out of the pots nearly as easily. I do have a couple plants coming up that are probably some kind of tomato or pepper but only time...
I'm terribly jealous of anyone who is able to grow rhubarb. We had it when I was growing up in Alaska and it (like everything else), got HUGE during the summer. Rhubarb pie is my favorite pie, unless someone tries to tone it down with strawberry :P . My husband loves rhubarb jam as well...
I've never grown Momotaro before so I have no idea how it will do. I picked it up mainly because I like growing different varieties every year and this was one of the few heirlooms available at the shop. I plan on going to our local organic nursery this weekend to pick up some more varieties...
I planted some of my new garden beds today. Some started tomatoes but the rest direct seed.
Tomatoes:
Pineapple
Momotaro
German Johnson
Cherokee Purple
Amish Paste
Peppers:
Georgia Flame
Joe's Long Cayenne
I planted some yellow onions in between the tomatoes.
The second bed has:
Lettuce Mix...
I have plans to use the blocks to plant flowers or garlic. We picked that type of block specifically so that we could use that space for extra planting :D .
Lesa, funny that you should say that about the gravel. I was just talking to my husband about it last night and said that I wasn't sure that I really want gravel in there. I was thinking more about that being the space I'll be kneeling in when I am planting and weeding and how gravel won't...
We have managed to make some good progress on our chicken and garden tasks this week. We finished the chicken tractor and the garden boxes for the front garden. My husband is putting in the last of the border blocks on the front garden right now. Then all we have to do is fill in the walkways...
