My father has blackberries behind his house, but I think they were always ready to eat around July/August. The little bushes behind our place don't seem to be anywhere close to edible. The leaves look more like raspberries to me, but here's a photo of the berries themselves.
Ideas?
I haven't seen any fruit, so I'm guessing I'm too late in the season. I'm hoping they're strawberry plants though. What do you think? My woods are loaded with these.
Are they regular apples or crab apples? I've found an additional tree. The fruit is now starting to turn red; not the whole apple, just spots.
1st tree's fruit...
2nd tree...
I originally thought this tree might possibly be an Elder (berries are tiny like a pinky nail), but I've never seen those grow berries like this (clump wise)... Perhaps it's 'Cascara Sagrada'? It appears to be similar from the pictures in my medicinal plants book. Someone help me out please...
I actually just finally got my internet back a hour or so ago...
Now that I'm here and see the tree up close, it appears to be a crabapple. The apples are a decent size, but they're turning from green to red in places with some little speckles. I know a picture would help more, so maybe I'll...
:lau
Sorry, I'm cracking up over here. Yes, I agree, that's some mighty fine handy work there, isn't it? It's actually a kennel and we've decided to just tear the whole thing off.
And MissPrissy from BYC I'm sure has a recipe for the jelly, since she was the one that mentioned it.
Really? I remember having a walnut out back our house in Jersey when I was really little. There were always nuts on it. We were at the new house cleaning today and I noticed small fuzzy looking cherry sized 'fruits' on the tree, so I'm assuming it will produce this year? I should have taken a...
MissPrissy said crabapples make awesome jelly, didn't she?
At any rate, I hope it's an apple tree. The neighbor across the street has an small orchard himself.
I know there's a few on BackyardChickens, but maybe someone here has something different? Or maybe we can just swap plants for plants?
Anyone want to try it? :D
Oh this monster is right out front the house in full sun, it's got to be at least 4ft+ tall. It's blocking the porch.
Anyone know if limb clippings will root?
I should take another picture. It's double its size surely. I've never planted sunflowers, I wonder how high it'll get before flowers bud?
It's a Russian Mammoth or something like that.
