Wow impressive looking squash there! I did have some like that big heart shaped one in my patch when I grew it.
I'd say your squash skins cured in the field somewhat but I notice the peduncles are still green which means you could likely do more off the vine curing.
I think these may well keep...
Pulse, I keep a pretty extensive database for my vegetables especially the bean collection. I'll add the cotyledon and hypocotyl to my database, those are good suggestions and I honestly did not have them. As I've said below in response to Marshall descriptions vary from person to person so I'm...
Marshall do you think if someone were to create a book about bean cultivars that leaves, growth type, flower color and such would be just as important to include photos of as the dry seed?
Sorry to yell virus, I'm one of those super paranoid types that exercises excessive caution :)
So did it look like a normal plant but just miniature? I do recall once or twice in all my years I've had the odd miniature plant in a row and could never explain it.
I'd say the stunted plant was likely virus, if you get any like that in future your best to incinerate them roots and all as soon as possible just to be safe so it does not spread.
It seems to be a landrace, funny how you seem to have got more diversity than I did with mine.
The picture is fine by the way :)
I'm going to grow out some more of my original seed stock this year to see what I get, maybe I can do a comparison of mine against yours?
My rows are 45 feet long and I normally sow in a block but I will be hand pollinating anyhow so will get a good mix of pollen from each plant on each ear.
I used to work in a nursery and all I got were complaints about the flavor, I grew them once just to test and would save about the same as you did.
Thank you for taking the time to give me feed back.
I'm planting out some of the Peas I started in the greenhouse for my breeding project.
The soil is not warm enough to transplant everything else I have growing yet.
Tasmania sounds nice but having their own customs rules and a limited range of vegetables might burst your bubble.
I think you'd want Victoria over Tasmania :)
