    "How's Your Melons Doin'?"

@Carol Dee Oddly enough apart from the skin color everything is spot on for a Crenshaw type cantaloupe.

    Show off your pumpkins

I've grown Taos and it was far more consistent for fruit size, shape and color but I did not find it quite as early as La Madera under my conditions. It was quite a large hubbard type with cracked skin. Give it a go and report back, I'll be growing out the last of your La Madera seed you sent me...

@journey11 'Purple King' is quite good here in summer when others struggle, we also have another known as 'Anderson's Purple King' but it has much smaller seeds and is not available anymore but I'm working in getting it into circulation. @Bluejay77 will recognize the name because it is from the...

    Should We Talk, Cukes?

Usually they had a sturdy support that ran along the length of the poly tunnel and they secured it to that like when you see a sturdy frame for peas done in metal or timber with the twine ect secured to that. There are cultivars suited to tunnel/glass house cultivation and they are often...

    Should We Talk, Cukes?

I prefer to trellis cucumbers, well maybe not the apple types so much but anything with some length is good trellised because it leads to more even fruit formation. The longer the cucumber the more prone it will be to uneven development leading to one end wide and one narrow, trellising will...

    Hybrid Green Beans?

Beans are one of the hardest vegetables to manually pollinate so you won't even find F1 hybrids available because they are not cost effective enough, beans even new IP protected cultivars are stable cultivars. You can replant your Fortex and they will come true to type unless the bumble bees...

2015 Little Easy Bean Network - Old Beans Should Never Die !

@Bluejay77 Your tomatoes are just beautiful, they are clean, vigorous and loaded with fruit. I'm not surprised P.coccineus does well there, they sure make a nice ornamental display as well and some have incredibly huge pods.

    watermelon question

Okay with Watermelons and other melons the flavour is dependent on sugar which will become diluted if you have too much water be it rain or irrigation, I've found best flavour is attained if water is withheld as much as possible in the 7-10 days leading up to harvest. I've had the same thing as...
