Way to go, garlic is one of my favorite things to plant and grow. Its easy, but long... the pay off in the end is so worth though.
Thistle, is that a little farmer tractor toy in your pictures?
They could be done, and the moisture in the ground is just having them die off strangely.
Last year I thought I was losing my spud as they never flowered, the bottoms started yellowing and a few day later started curling up and dying. We I pulled all the plants I found the grew a LOT of very...
Glad to see other's sunflowers are going CRAZY too this time of year. :)
We've haven't been able to enjoy our garden because of all the rain. Its still raining, I can't remember when this round started or it will end. They're saying MAYBE monday. So for now, I scooted out last night and cut...
I would look around you, believe it or not its still grown a LOT in the south, but a lot of places in the west are growing it now as well. Its coming back slowly. I found a place down the road that does it, but they haven't returned my call or email. :(
I think in the end, we'll have like 30...
Have you looked around for mills/farms that do it in your area. See if they can get you in to process yours?
I'd REALLY like to build a machine to do it myself. :D
You guys asked me to update you on how the sorghum project was going. They took off very well this year, and fairly early. They range in size from 5' to 10' (the canes) so far. I think all this flooding rain is separating nutrients from the soil and moving them around as I am finding that plants...
Oh my gosh, I had to spend 2 hours cleaning and sorting cabinets and drawers in the kitchen to make room to store everything. Then I ended up making my tomato sauce last night. Processed some peaches. Got berries this morning to do more today.

Monty, I KNOW how you feel!
We had rain for 12 days straight. Then it didn't rain for July 4th here (but it did in Durham) then July 5th and 6th no rain. July 7th in the evening it started up again, we had 3 showers yesterday, 1 with the lightening and thunder and 2 with just downpours. Today...
Ok, turns out its blight. Like everything else that is happening with this darned weather, we got fungal diseases destroying EVERYTHING. I cut as many canes as I could. I still need to rake out all the dead leaves... but of course, another storm came through and we're being walloped! Grrrr I did...
After reading this thread, I noticed today my raspberries are curling up and dying. My spring crop is pretty much done so I start cleaning out the dead and finished canes. Today I realized my fall canes are curling up and dying now too!!!
I do believe we were got by the cane borer maggots. So...
