Its a gorgeous, sunny day here in Bama! I took a break from my studies and got two of my beds sown.. A little sun is so good for my soul! :weee I'm a little worried about the summer humidity but hopefully they will do fine...
Thanks for all the comments guys! I've always been fascinated with poppies since I watched The Wizard of Oz as a little girl. They're just so beautiful and happy! I'm gonna go ahead and sow them tomorrow, as I think i'll have more time for thinning than transplanting this Spring. And on a...
Quick question.. I'm reading conflicting articles on when these can be planted.. If I sow them now, will the frost kill them? I've read to sow in early Winter, late Winter or after the danger of frost. uhhhhhh...:caf:hu
Last fall, when my Gerberas were about to get taken by the frost, I noticed they were seeding.. So my daughter and I put some in a ziploc bag and misted them with water. In a little over a week, we had sprouts and transplanted them into some potting soil. I took them to my dad's "greenhouse"...
I ordered 20,000 Mission Bell seeds, which is enough to cover app 200 square feet. I decided to sow them in my rock garden area as well. It was a little confusing figuring out exactly what I need because every website sells them by different seed count, weight, etc.. Thanks for all the...
Are those rust resistant? I planted zinnas one year, we had a rainy spell and rust got them.. That's the thing about Alabama...It may be as dry as a desert or as wet as a rainforest. One thing for certain, it is ALWAYS extremely hot and humid! lol :somad
Oh, and one more question.. A...
Ok, now that I'm sure I have a flower bed full of weeds sprouting rather than petunias, I've hoed out my beds and am trying to decide what to plant. I'm an extremely busy nursing student, wife and mom of 3 littles, and graduation is in MAY! Hooray! With that being said, I was thinking of...
And the answer is.....WEEDS! ARRRGH!. Looks like i'll be getting out the garden hoe! The cold snap didn't hurt them one bit and they're growing like crazy! :th
Thanks for all the suggestions, those are great ideas! We're about to go through a cold snap and the lows will be in the 15 degree range for a few days... Can they withstand that amount of cold?
That's a great idea, thank you! I had multiple colors and also the Wave variety, so I'm very curious as to what I'll get.. It's funny the Wave petunias were gorgeous the entire Summer and into the Fall.. I may also try to give some away..
I'm loving the forum so far! Thanks everyone for...
I walked outside and pulled one..This is how it looks. There are hundreds of them! I will probably hoe them out however if the heat is going to kill them again. Last year, it was very frustrating to watch them wilt despite my best efforts... :idunno
I have wild rhododendrons in my yard, but the leaves are no where near this big, and as stated above, they have buds in the center... :weee
My parents have tons of these in the woods around their house, along huge with Southern Magnolias. So my wild guess is a juvenile Southern Magnolia. But...
Thanks guys! That's crazy Jared77, lol! Can you tell if the foilage on the image I posted are young petunias? I had such bad luck with them last year that I was thinking of starting over with California Poppies (the soil around here is poor and full of sandstone.) But I wouldn't want to rip...
