    Lavender

Interesting, did you like the cookies? I had no idea lavender was in Herbs De Provence because i've never used it in my life  Whenever a recipe said Herbs De Provence my mom just told me to put some of all of the green leafy herbs.....rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil, marjoram usually...

    Long Storage Squash

I'm so confused on a few levels here.... First your in zone 5/6 and are saying you cant grow a lot of squash types (like butternut) because the season isnt long enough??? Butternut squash is only 95 days until harvest, in zone 5 or 6 you should have between 130 to 175 days of growing season. I...

    Lavender

Has anyone had a lavender flavored food? I have about 3 times came across recipes for lavender flavored baked goods. Like lavender and lemon macarons, lavendar and orange bunt cake, lavender and lemon pound/bunt cake, and lavender cookies. If yes does it taste just like lavender smells?

    Good Ketchup Recipe

I can't imagine...we love black pepper. I dont like anything very hot though i can take spice, like two literal drops of sriracha in a bowl of Pho is my limit. Our chili is never hot though it is spicy.

    What are you canning now?

I already canned and made a lot. Currently working on canning/making more apple cider as the apples have frozen on the trees so I am getting what i can out of them. I may make another batch or two of applesauce and apple butter depending on the state of the apples when i get to that point. We...

    Good Ketchup Recipe

Is your mom allergic to peppers? I'm just guessing from the black pepper reference. My mom had a lady at her church who was allergic to any type of peppers and that oddly included black pepper.

By the by ~ have you noticed the price of Vanilla

Beanilla seems pretty pricey honestly. Grade B is usually for extracts and you can get 10 beans of several varieties including tahiti and plani for $12-20. You can get get 25 beans for about $40. Beanilla for regular grade B bourbon vanilla(which is worth less) 10 beans for $33.45 and 25 beans...

    Toast!

Yes it gets huge, very fluffy and light! It so big I have to cut a quarter off the end to fit it in the bread baggies they sell. That does sound good!

    Toast!

Extra Virgin?? I only lived there for 3 months ...then my visa was up. Your right on the cloves....a restrained hand is very needed. Your friend reminds me of my sister....results can be questionable even with a recipe. She substitutes things........ In fairness I do to but everyone...

Really don't know, I assume they mean real natural colorant instead of synthetic. Their website does say "unwrap an improved recipe"

You're very lucky to get to try all those different vanillas!!! I want to try the tahiti kind, I have noticed it is slightly cheaper then the bourbon I can find and I don't think I have ever had it. I don't think I would choose to do 180 because as mentioned I use the real deal for...

    Toast!

We love it!! I use the king Arthur flour recipe but I make the rue then whisk in the rest of the milk then the egg and the butter so there is no waiting on the rue to cool and i can continue with the recipe right away. Literally takes 10 minutes until the dough is kneaded, oiled and in the bowl...

    Toast!

I love cinnamon and I love ginger so i put them in lots of things, sweet and savory. My favorite for ginger is one you mentioned stir-fry :drool Also am not a fan of nutmeg thats why i only put a couple of grains of nutmeg just enough for a light background flavor that compliments it and not...

Making your own will save you money in the long haul compared to buying the real deal at the store, however it will still be costing you approx $1.57/oz if you using proper ratios (approx 75 beans per gallon of 35% alcohol) compared to imitation being $0.13/oz. Also Watkins Baking Vanilla is...

    Toast!

I don't know if I have a favorite. Normally we make strawberry freezer jam or strawberry rhubarb but I didn't get out in time to pick strawberries this year. So this year I made plum jam and apple butter, two of my favorites also. BTW the EASIEST way to make any butter is in a crockpot, no...

Fake vanilla is actually not made from coal-tar, it's made mostly from wood-tar creosote or wood lignin. The simple fact is coal-tar..aka coal is not cheap, wood is. Coal-tar is still used in some 3rd world countries but not really in the US anymore because of the cancer causing concerns. They...
