    Baymule’s Farm

Riding mower! :gig:lol::gig:lol: It takes a tractor and bush hog, even at that, these fields are rough with ant hills and crawdad mounds. They bog down the bush hog and I have to be quick on the clutch to keep from stalling out the tractor. Lift bush hog, try to find a clear spot to...

    Coffee

Coffee. I will survive now….. out of cream, but I’ll survive that too. Had a lovely afternoon with friends yesterday, got home right before dark and got animals fed. AC was blowing hot air, was 81F in the house. I shut it off, called son to complain. He suggested that I go to his house and sleep...

    Baymule’s Farm

They were getting close to seed when I chopped them. Then took 2 days for a trip to Corpus Christi to see granddaughters, then a 9 AM to 10 PM chicken processing, then a morning feed run, followed by total exhaustion. Next day, yesterday, picking up thistles and bagging them. Monday start over!

    Concerned About Growing Old?

I usually gain weight over the winter. Generally it’s 5-8 pounds, no big deal, unless I don’t get it off, gain weight the next winter and so on. So I go on a diet, each year I try something different with varying levels of success. Mostly I dont strictly adhere to the diet, they are all boring...

    Baymule’s Farm

Today I worked all day, picking up the thistles I chopped on Monday. Even chopped off the stem, the stalks put everything they had into producing seed from the blooms. As I picked up the stalks, I sprayed the thistles with Grazon. The blooms have turned into white fluffy seeds that float on...

    Baymule’s Farm

Doing chores yesterday evening, I opened the doors to the shed to find two copperheads nestled on the alfalfa crumbs. Uhhh…., Nope! NOT reaching for a flake of alfalfa! I went and got a square point shovel and a machete. I slammed the shovel on both, whacked the bigger snake with the machete...

    Coffee

I’ve had my coffee, waiting on daylight so I can get the day started. Yesterday I slaughtered 14 chickens and processed them. They are enjoying freezer camp. I started at 9 AM, walked out of the kitchen at 10 PM. I took time out to do evening chores and a wine break last night, only had 4 more...

    Baymule’s Farm

Interesting note: a neighbor told me when he lived in Uvalde, there were fields of thistles grown on purpose and harvested. Because the stems store water, they are used in shampoo to “hydrate” hair. I had no idea….

    Baymule’s Farm

Yesterday morning I battled bull thistles. A few weeks ago, I dug up a lot of them, but not enough. I had to stop on thistles and slaughter 45 chickens over several weeks, and process them. Round 2 starts probably Thursday, I have about 50 to send to freezer camp. Back to thistles, they are...

    Ducks ALIVE in 2025!

I hope your peach tree is ok! Do you dress up for the CW reenactment? As a teenager my DD dated a boy whose family was CW reenactment participants. She had to have a dress, so I made her one. It was short sleeved but it was going to be cold that night, so I made elastic banded slip on “long...

    Concerned About Growing Old?

Sometimes I feel like I was born 100-150 years too late…… But then I think about my washing machine, clothes dryer, refrigerator, freezer, stove, electric or propane, light switch, truck, car, TV, internet, blue jeans and I realize that the good thing about the good ol’ days is that the good ol’...
