Hello Everyone! I recently started a job at a non-profit in Michigan - H.O.P.E. Gardens (helping other people eat). I'll have one of the school gardens to manage and would love to get my hands on some interesting beans that the kids can help harvest, and perhaps some will end up in sensory bins...
I very much would love to grow something out. I volunteer for a non-profit that puts gardens in schools in my city. I would love to be able to someday donate some "rainbow" colored beans for their gardens so the kids can have fun with them. Can you recommend some good ones that are red, orange...
I'm afraid I did not document the date, but it was about a month ago. I used our compost. I started a new round with seeds of some additional varieties. This was a couple weeks ago and seedlings have emerged. These will be more interesting due to no grow lights. Those were in a potting soil mix...
I agree with the beans idea. I think I'd suggest runner beans specifically. The bees love them and they are edible (in multiple stages). Not to mention, the dry beans and flowers are just pretty.
I vacationed in Alaska at the end of August/early September. It's beautiful. I was very curious about people's gardening habits with the daylight, etc. Fascinating! We just missed the county fair by a day or two.
The black ones were unexpectedly large last year. They are Black Coat Runner Bean. As for the pink ones, I believe it was supposed to be a light kidney bean from my soup bean mix experiment. It was such a lovely shade of pink.
Here are some of my favorites so far. I am about to get serious about trying more rare beans starting next year. :) I did dahlias from seed this year. Beans are way easier to store. LOL
