I actually got to enjoy my Campanula Bellfowers this year. The vibrant color is an eye catcher!

    Adventures in Soil Blocking

I have tried triple curled and flat leaf Italian. And, I have germination on the triple curled! Even sage is popping a couple up. And I think I may have found a clue... since herbs in general prefer slightly drier soil, maybe the seeds don't like to be fully wet... just moist, not wet. So...

    Adventures in Soil Blocking

I've been busy busy busy, between soil blocking more basil, just the Italian Large Leaf at the moment for the produce stand, and starting the Bush green beans, squash, zukes, cantaloupes and watermelons for the home garden, I just don't have many moments to myself. The seeds started in the 2"...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

The veggie garden has hog wire panels, and a half panel serves fir the gate. While woody is a well fed critter, it fits through one of the openings that you wouldn't think it would. Chicken wire was put up a good 18" to cover the lower openings but apparently not enough.

What Did You Do In The Garden?

Not much happening out in the gardens, since the woodchuck has made his/her presence known again. I believe the demon has also found a way into the fenced veggie garden, as several perennials wintered in empty beds were nibbled on, and the clover cover crop was 'mowed' in one bed. It's not our...

    Propagating lilacs

Sorry for response delay, life has run me over like a freight train. I will prune back the dead bramble underneath and try to crawl in to see if they are root shoots or independents. Thank you for the info!

    Propagating lilacs

I fell waaaaay behind on pruning after flowering when corporate life had me working 6 days a week. The competition with the lelands makes me wonder if they are worth salvaging. Thus, propagation. Multiple cuttings and rooting hormone, check!

    Propagating lilacs

My lilac shrubs are old, scraggly and in competition with leylands of 23 years (before I knew better) plus Cedar trees. They are currently blooming and the scent is magical to me. I've seen some growth at the base, but because of the dead bramble below, it's difficult to reach for me (I...

    Your Weather, 2024

Had a tornado watch until 2am, just got heavy rains, thankfully. The problem for me is the close to freezing temps the next couple of mornings. Going to have to pack up plants and herbs from the stand into the car and bring them home, I guess. Limited produce covered with sheets and tarps...

    Coffee

Morning! One cup coffee, one each chamomile and peppermint tea. Hopefully a productive day ahead. We've got the crush-and-run stone down on one side under the Pavillion, need to move the stock tables so we can do the other side. Then the plant shelves go up. Then off to the super secret...

    Coffee

Finished my coffee, on my first cup of chamomile tea. 12 hours no temperature. I'll consider my quarantine done. DH made a good chicken, smashed potatoes and steamed carrots dinner. I know the chicken is what cured the issue. 😀 Good weed pulling day, ground just moist enough from...

    Coffee

We are picky as to what we will carry... a number of people have asked why we didn't open sooner, and your answer covers it. The quality of what's out there right now is not what we want to offer. Stuff that has been in storage, or picked early and gassed, much has been on the road for weeks...

    Coffee

Quietly sipping my coffee while I contemplate the day. Rain this morning but clearing out this afternoon. And still running a temperature. I know there are always cruds running aound, especially come Spring or Fall, but it's been a week or so and I'm tired of it. If we get some warm sun...

    Your Weather, 2024

We've had 70 degree days, and 40 degree nights*. I spend a lot of time opening and closing protective covers for the annuals and herbs, but so far so good. *anything below 40 gets an extra layer of old sheets or quilts. 11 days to opening the produce stand. What I've got is herbs and...

    Coffee

Happy Friday! Did all sorts of transplanting of seedlings into salable pots yesterday while Hussie the cat kept me company. And today, I'm back running a 99 degree temp, which for me is a temp. My standard is 97.5. DH's magic elixir is the beverage choice fir the day.

    Adventures in Soil Blocking

Well, I've been spoiled it seems. I started some flower seeds last week in the standard 6 pack plastic packs. Yesterday I need to transplant into small pots (for resale) and while they had nice little root structures, they we a mighty pain to get out of the cells. Not like soil blocked...

    Coffee

Morning! Definitely feeling better, not 100% but better. Mother Nature is playing games and a frosty freezing 28 degrees this morning. I covered what I could last night, brought in a number of things that I couldn't. Hussie the cat is liking this jungle effect..... Hope everyone makes it...
