Hi EggsForIHOP! Welcome to The Easy Garden!
I am north of you not far from Waco. If you can find already started plants, then the bigger the better. Steve is correct about our Texas heat will zap baby plants. Today's projected high is 98 so I'm sure you may even be hotter. If you can't find...
Does anyone out there have some corkscrew vine seeds (also known as shell or snail vine)? I could swap heirloom tomato seeds or this fall I will have LOADS of other type seeds to swap.
So far this year I have started:
Cherokee Purple
Indian Stripe
San Marzano
Cuostralee
Mr Stripey
Mortgage Lifter
Black Cherry
Isis Candy
Burrakers Favorite
Kellogg's Breakfast
Amish Paste
Black Krim
Cherokee Chocolate
Hillbilly
Neves Azorean Red
Giant Oxheart
Brandywine
Of all these...
We are trying them for the first time this year. We were given ours by an 82 yr old man that still sacks groceries and is more spry than a lot of folks half his age. From what I have read they can cause gas but then again so do beans and lots of other food. And just like other foods, the...
Hey, thanks for the tip. I have been thinking of ordering that special from Gurneys but was kind of skeptical. Perhaps I will go ahead and order some.... :fl
My kids really like beets too. I sprinkle a little brown sugar over them with a little butter and heat them up. They also like my pickled beets. OH, and the young greens are delicious (they aren't as yummy when they get biggish).
I grew beets last year for the first time. I started with 2 rows...
I think the main reason I am wanting row covers is to protect my young plants when I first set them out. Last year we had a late freeze and I lost most everything so I was hoping to prevent that this year. It won't be something I use long term.....
I have seen this mentioned in several posts as well as the pics. I am wondering if this has to be a special fabric? I have some clear plastic - could I use this over some mini-wire supports? Or possibly pic up some organza or light woven fabric to make my row covers?
Does anyone have some lemon verbana and/or magic carpet thyme (the stuff you can walk on) to share/spare? I have lots of seed varieties I could trade..... :fl
I say those seeds will probably germinate. Now, maybe not ALL of them but just this year I planted some globe amaranth and some Mexican Bird of Paradise from seeds my mother had saved back in the mid 90's - they all sprouted! And last year I started cantaloupe seeds she had saved a good 10+ yrs...
Texan, you should check your local feed stores for onion sets. I'm going tomorrow to one of the more local ones and can get a few sets of 1015's and reds which is usually about 60 onions per set for $.85 per bunch but if I buy 3 or more sets the price drops to $.75 each which is a LOT cheaper...
Well, I got them all in peat pellets yesterday. I did 4 of each of the slicers and cherries to make sure I end up with at least 2 each along with 6 of the San Marzano (would have done more if I'd had more seed) and 8 of the Amish Paste. I've had a couple of neighbors request to buy plants from...
See, that's what I was thinking. There are SO MANY tomato varieties that sound so scrumptious that I couldn't make up my mind so I figured I would grow most of the ones I wanted to try and any overages I could do a roadside stand thing. There is a resort just 1.5 miles up the road from me where...
OK, so for the spring/summer crops I have 17 different varieties to try. These are the varieties:
1) Giant Oxheart - 90 DTM
2) Amish Paste - 80 DTM
3) Neves Azorean Red - 75 DTM
4) San Marzano - 80 DTM
5) Indian Stripe - 85 DTM
6) Cherokee Purple - 80 DTM
7) Cherokee Chocolate - 80 DTM
8)...
I like elderberry in my tea when I have a cold. As well as chamomile and mint. The 2 main types I see being sold are Nova and York but what I see as being used for the teas is Common elderberry....
Around here tillers rent for about $50 per day. The tiller I have is a 5HP Wizard that my dad bought for my mother (brand new) about 17 yrs ago. We affectionately call her "Bessie".....lol. She still starts on the 3rd try and I have yet to find anything she won't till except for maybe a LARGE...
I want to plant some elderberry bushes for the medicinal properties - is there any particular strain that is best or are all elderberry's good for teas and such?
