It got to 109 degrees today in San Diego. It NEVER (till now) gets that hot here, especially this late in the year. I'm giving up on my cool weather crops till things cool off. The bagrada bugs ate all my mustard.

Yikes! You live a lot closer to the coast than I did when I lived there, but I recall many 100 degree days in September.
Many school days walking to, or, from school found me with a bloody nose.
Hopefully you won't get a Santa Ana on top of the heat.

Wow, that stinks! I'm glad our temps have leveled off to normal this time of year - upper 80's. September is supposed to be a dry month for us, but we've had a lot of rain in the last couple of days and 80% chance today. I still haven't planted anything except winter squash - looks like I won't for a few more days.

I've seen that happen. What I think is that some plants get forced into dormancy by unusual heat and drought conditions; then when they get some rain and relief from the heat they wake up and think it's Spring.
