I had a half whiskey barrel brimming with amaryllis when I lived in San Diego's East county. They were my moms, given to me when she and dad moved away. Some of them had been grandmas also. I brought a couple of bulbs with me when we came here. They bloomed every year, until the time I forgot to bring them back in the house in the fall.
