"Plentiful" Bush Snap. 55 days to snaps and 85 days to first dry pods. Widely adapted. Bred and introduced by the Ferry-Morse Seed Company of Detroit, Michigan in 1938. Resistant to some forms of rust. Pods are oval, fleshy, dark green.

"Improved Kidney Wax " Bush/Snap/Wax 90 days to dry seed. One of the several variations of Kidney Wax bred by Calvin Keeney and introduced by the Burpee company in 1906. Pods are longer because they are straigher than Brittle Wax.

"Stringless Green Refugee" Bush green snap. A Calvin Keeney variety 1908. Stringless Green Refugee is a light-green-podded bean, stringless, essentially free from fiber in the side walls, fine-textured, and with small, straight, nearly round pods. It was once used mainly for packing whole.

" Round Pod Kidney Wax" Bush/Snap/Wax. Another form of Kidney Wax. Large plants grows without runners. Blossoms white. Large leaves and thick stemmed with a greenish yellow shading. Pods are slightly variable in size but long. Medium yellow brittle and stringless. Introduced by Johnson And Stokes Seeds in 1900. Another Calvin Keeney development and credited to N.B. Keeney & Son of Leroy, New York as the originator of the variety.

"Long Fellow" Bush/Dry. 83 days to first dry pods. A variety with an obscure history. However a bean grown in southern France called Empereur de Russie,Emporor Of Russia is said to be without a doubt Longfellow. Brought to America and introduced by the Peter Henderson Company in 1885.

"Webber Wax" Bush/Snap/Wax. Pickable pods in 47-49 days. AKA Clifford Wonder, Admiral Wax, Vanguard, Clifford New Wonder Wax, and Cracker Jack Wax. Introduced in 1913 by Forbes in Plymouth, Indiana. Grows much like a yellow podded Bountiful. Fairly drought resistant. Plants are somewhat compact 12-15 inches tall. Blossom White. Pods 5-6 inches long.

"Berry's Best" Bush/Dry. From the Burt Berrier collection of Canon City, Colorado. Berrier was a farm equipment salesmen in the 1970's. As he made calls on his farmer customers he ocassionaly collected beans from them. This bean would eventually make it's way into John Withee's Wanigan Collection.

"Provider" Bush/Snap. 50 days to snaps. Introduced to the public in 1963. Developed by the USDA Vegetable Breeding Lab in Charleston, South Carolina. Parentage: Valentine, Logan, Ashley Wax, Asgrow Stringless Greenpod, and Commodore. Plants bear heavy yields 6 inch stringless round green pods. Widely adapted.

I picked and froze some delicious Provider snap beans this summer. The bean also threw off about three off types this year.

"Pawnee" An original bean of mine named by me in 1979 and discovered growing among a bean called "Brown Kidney" This bean has been around now for 38 years. Can be found on the internet being sold by many heritage seed companies, and in collections in Europe. I first listed the bean in the 1982 and '83 SSE yearbook. The bean can also be found in a Mother Earth News magazine article. Bush/Dry. 90 days to first dry pods. Very clean shelling, productive on upright plants without runners.

"Yellow Jacket" True bush grows without runners. An out cross with a bush Borlotti bean and the Danish bean variety Prinsesse. This bean has not been very productive or grown very well. I have often thought about giving up on the idea of growing it any further. Pods are short and don't usually contain very many beans.
