Unfortunately, the woodchucks are back. I have relocated two already (to woodchuck heaven.) So, now I am on the look out for dangers to the garden. When watering the other day, I saw a hole in one of the rows, next to the cukes. Right away I was imagining a large family of mice setting the table for a nice vegetarian meal... Yesterday, when I looked into the hole-there were eyes looking out at me!!! It was a toad! Finally got a toad to take up residence in the garden. I am guessing because it is so dry- the watered garden has become an oasis. I was happy to see a friend looking up at me, instead of a foe!

Lesa, I only wish I'd find a good little toad in my herb garden - so far I've seen 1 rat snake and 2 scorpions (smushed both of those nasty suckers) I didn't even know we had scorpions in the state of Louisiana!

Yay for you and your new garden buddy!

At our old house we had lots of toads, the boys were always making "pets" of them. They all went by the name Puddinhead.
Sadly, I have not seen a single one at this house.
