I’ve had some significant health issues the past several years and unfortunately everything in my garden is pretty much gone, except the hollyhocks which went a little feral and the roses became aggressive and angry.
Today Fen and I got out the 6” chain saw and attacked one of the roses and pulled out the old hollyhock stalks. The piles are intimidating! Hope they burn well.

I need to pull up the 100’s of HH plants coming up and plant some stuff the will look nice and set off the rock wall. Any suggestions welcome! Zone 5b, high desert.

It’s a huge yard but I’m taking little bites. This is the first.
I’ll include the hollyhock invasion in next post…

The roses I’m wrestling with used to be gorgeous. But they got completely out of control without some kind of care while I was confined to the house. Here they are in their glory…hoping I can bring them back to that!

Got them cut completely back to just 3-4 shorter canes. It tool a small chainsaw to cut through the larger ones. They looked more like tree trunks 😵‍💫

Pig is helping. He is doing the rototilling ☺️
Fen has been helping too. He helps me shake the soil off of the big grass mounds that took over my planters 😁
