I broke out the garden hose and washed both cars in the driveway today, in February no less. In fact, I spent most of the day outdoors enjoying this glorious weather.

From today's Times Union:
"At 4:19 p.m. on Friday, the Capital Region crushed an all-time record high temperature for winter when the thermometer in Albany spiked to 74 degrees, as people walked outside in shorts and t-shirts instead of jackets and gloves.

"We totally obliterated several records today," said Kevin Lipton, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. The previous record high for the day — 65 degrees, set in 1985 — was smashed. Ditto the record high for any day in February, which had never topped 70 in records for Albany region dating back to 1874, he said.

And the big one also fell: 74 is a new record high for any day in what meteorologists called "climatological winter," meaning the months of December, January and February. The old record was 72 degrees, set Christmas Eve in 2015. Eight of the 10 warmest winter days on record in Albany have now been set since 1998."

That is the second record this week, and if it does not cloud over tomorrow another record may be broken.

Not sure if any records were booked here, but it was 57 yesterday. I went cross-country skiing without a jacket.

In fact, all week it has been in the 40's and 50's. I'm not fond of the cold winter weather, but still, this whole climate change thing is a little freaky. It seems to be throwing all kinds of extremes: cold, heat, flooding, drought. Things certainly seem less predictable!

We've broken record highs four times here this February, only two of those on consecutive days. We had 81 on a day that the previous record was 74. My plum trees were blooming but it's 22 this morning so they are zapped, no plums for me this year. I ate my first asparagus of the year last night. That's quite early but today's freeze will knock then back. It's been unusually dry too.

Definitely an unusual winter in different ways for many of us. All that rain and snow in California. The strongest tornado on record in the New Orleans area. The unexpected pleasant weather many people are seeing. It just seems unusual for many of us. For those enjoying it, enjoy. For the others not enjoying it, this too shall pass. It may pass like a kidney stone, but it will pass.

The paper said that frogs and salamanders will be coming out to mate, crossing roads and the roads could get slippery. Ugh.
