It couldn't have been my Grandfather's buddy. He had already left London Ontario by 1915.

In fact, Grandpa's older children, my Aunt Velma & Uncle Howard, would have been the same age as little Homer Mellon! Dear Santa Claus:

Aww... And such practical requests too, bless his heart.

How neat that someone thought to save this all those years. How did you come by it?

You know,

I could use this as an excuse to talk about where we get our news . . ;)

I was just reading on Mashable that Pinterest is becoming a place for "news." Notice that I put this in quotation marks. I've been trying to figure out how one would get any "news" from Pinterest - at all.

I think I've got it! The picture and a headline - click for the story! Well sure . . .

The only problem, as best I can figure out, is that only The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and Mashable are using Pinterest for this purpose . . . now, do I want to use Pinterest to find "news" stories??? Maybe not.

I can't see Pinterest being practical for that. More likely they have something to sell and are using headlines for the hook to get people to their sites.

I don't always catch the local news program on tv and I don't have time to sit down with the paper either. I have several different local and national news sites pinned to My Yahoo page and scan the headlines briefly to see what's blowing up today. I figure if it's really important, I'll hear about it from someone sometime. :p

...What's blowing up today.

I wonder if this present phase of history will be known deurogatorily as the <got spell check on that word> the AGE OF PEOPLE BLOWING THINGS AND PEOPLE UP.

That is really something. Amazing how things were so practical back then.

One of my niece's friends told me her grandmother was buying her an IPad. What does a 3rd grader need with an IPad? :he

Know what my daughter asked for? A dog & cat themed activity book (like the ones from the dollar store with pictures to color & mazes & word searches)maybe some new puzzles & carrot seeds for the garden so we can grow extra for people who don't have any food. She's in kindergarden. Was everything I had not to get choked up when she explained why she wanted the carrot seeds.

Far as the news goes I'm just not worried about it. If something big happens it trickles down to to the mushroom I live under. The rest I'm just not worried about. Uninformed? Absolutely but these days with what they try to pawn off as news.....well I'm uninformed for a reason.

Talking about the local news ... they daily report another story of someone getting shot, had a stubbed toe, cat / dog gets hit by a car and needs surgery , or someone gets cancer surgery, or broken leg, or some one stole a bike, or ? ? ? ? ..... send your donations to this or that bank's account ... Is this type of reporting news or some type of social welfare gone overboard ? If I was to send just a dollar to every one of these pleas every week, I would have to apply for welfare .
