Something has been raiding my garden for tomatos and here in the middle of town I couldn't figure out what it was. I spotted it this morning. A very old possum and it acted almost tame.I was wondering why the stray cats around weren't getting the villain but after seeing it I understand. It's bigger than any cat around here. If I can come to terms with it by leaving out a little food I'll let it be but if it keeps damaging my garden I guess I'll have to deal with it.

Yeah, I try to live and let live and prefer passive means as a first choice, like good fences or barriers. But sometimes passive doesnt work and some things can get over or through fences.

I saw a 3-1/2 foot black snake yesterday. Its big enough to eat chicken eggs or my baby chicks. But Im not missing any eggs or chicks, so I hope it keeps after the mice. Itll get some frogs too, but you have to make trade-offs. If it becomes a problem Ill deal with it, but until then, Im glad its around.

Good luck with that possum.

I feel the same way. If it is causing less damage than I can live with I'll let it be but this is the real world we live in, not some fairy tale and sometimes we have to defend what's ours.

I will never forget the first time I saw a possum on my property. It was almost dark and I looked out the window and saw this creature- the mind tries to figure it out. Not the cat, dog, chickens, etc. I actually went outside to get a closer look! I live right on the highway in a very city environment- and there was this possum just strolling along! I do have the garden fenced, but I have never seen a possum again...

I saw a possum play possum once. We used to raise greyhounds and some half grown puppies had one and I thought it was dead and went out to get it with a shovel and it jumped up and ran off.

many years ago, early one morning, I reach down to open the bathroom cabinet under the sink - a huge possum is hissing at me. I think I screamed loud enough for people in the next block to hear me. turned out, it was a whole family. one by one we moved this off into the woods. I didn't want to open that cabinet door for a long time after that :ep

It's amazing how many wild critters live right in the city and we never realize it.

I live a couple of blocks from City Hall and we have possums, raccoons and snakes. They thrive where there is lots of food and no predators. Do what you have to do with Mr. Possum Hoodat. I hope he decides the treats you put out for him is batter than your garden.

We have moose that come to town. There was a black bear in the park. Today, I saw a peacock walking down the sidewalk. I know they are not wild, but odd to see in town. Friends have bird droopings in their yard from geese and wild turkeys and there are certain streets I know to drive slow because of deer.
