Vets. are warning pet owners to keep an eye out for a flesh- eatingbacterial infection. Alabama Rot was first identified in the US is a condition that is caused by E. coli bacteria exprementing harmfull toxins that tend to cause massive skin lesions and ulcers on a dog's body, which if infected by additional pathogens could lead to more potant infections that is fatal from kidney failure .Originally occured in Greyhounds in the 1980s, and now labradors and Cocker Spanials were recently affectd in the UK. Sparking fears that this could represent the beginning of a new outbreak. No one knows how the disease spreads, but any dog can contract the infection. An infected dog can be treated and saved if it is caught and treated early on, but the likelyhood of death following infection is high. With no known preventative measures and a very difficult diagnossis, a sudden outbreak is possible at any time an infected dog is introduced to a population of healthy ones such as in a dog park, boarding kennel, grooming salon, rescue shelters, etc. NYboy... keep your eyes open !
