@Nyboy a while back you asked if there were alligators where I live. I said yes, but since we don't have a body of water on or near our property, we are alligator free. There is a real nice county park a few miles from us, complete with a lake, ball fields, walking trails, picnic areas and other amenities. Around the lake, with its obligatory lily pads, is posted these signs.

I thought about you. :thumbsup

When I go to a daylily festival in Florida there is a cluster of them near a big lake. I asked if there were alligators and got a resounding "Yes." In fact one farm had it's own quite large alligator that visited often and did not bother anyone. They did not mind it because it ate armadillos which dig in their plants. I do not know what I would have done if I stumbled across it in my visit. Of course it could be a farmer's tall tale. They also have a large sink hole in the middle of their farm.. That I saw with my own eyes.

We can get dips into the teens, have some snow and ice storms, but at the most, it will last a week before it warms up again. We don't have the road equipment for snow, so there are lots of idiots having wrecks. I carry boiling water from the house to pour on the iced over water tubs for the animals. :tongue

Alligators, being cold blooded, don't eat in the winter. Anything in their belly would rot, set up an infection, and kill them. When I lived along the coast, I'd see huge gators sunning up on the banks of bayous.

Park Sign in South Africa

I kinda resemble this, on the uphill side ...

No, I haven't been swimming in years. Afraid that movement in the water would be like a corkscrew and I would head straight to the bottom.
