Last year I thought I would try growing a bonsai that I have had for at least fifteen years in the same media I use for vegetables, coir and perlite. It is amazing how well it has responded. I feed it occasionally with used nutrients, and it has more flower buds this year than it has ever had. Serious bonsai growers would be aghast. ;) But you have to do what works for you.

Well, that experiment certainly worked out! That is a beauty. If you get any mini-apples don't post a pic. I just won't be able to be friends with you anymore!!

I thought I spotted that little bonsai bugger in one of your greenhouse photos!! Really nice job, jackb!! :woot
I actually got two small apples last year. When it blossoms, I put it outdoors and let the bees take care of pollination. All the years I have had it the plant had never blossomed.

The bonsai is budding, however, the weather turned cold again and there no bees, so my assistant is pollinating the tree. I don't know how I would ever get along without her.

Aren't grandkids the best?! We only have one and she's only 22 months but this Sunday she's coming over to help plant tomatoes!
Can't wait till she's the age of yours and she can do more...maybe pull weeds? Oh I forgot to comment about the tree...oh well.

I like the expression on her face. She's concentrating on what she's doing, and she is really enjoying what she is doing. Great photo!!!!

Sorry Lesa, but it appears that Ava's pollination efforts were a success.
