Alternative greenhouse - possible or not??

Hi guys

my name is Chris, that’s my first thread here ^^

please excuse me if I use some wrong terms I am not a native speaker

I have a question that is need to be answered ^^
I have had some greenhouses in the past, but never liked the look of them! My garden has more the romantic touch and greenhouses always look so straight or modern which doesn’t fit my gardens look… but I also had to determine that my vegetables grow much better with the help of a greenhouse… so I had to think about alternatives and my husband proposed me to use o normal garden-tent as a greenhouse. Of course I found one form of tent (like that one) that would perfectly fit my style and my gardens style. But I am not sure whether a tent will help my plants in the way a greenhouse does?! Of course it´ll keep it warm and that one has windows, so there will be enough light. But what about the air conditions and all that?


Does anyone have experience with it and is able to help me??

Chris, hi. I am not are what you mean by a tent. A tent for camping? I say this because their are many companies that produce greenhouses in a tunnel or tent shape. They are priced from low to very expensive. I have a tunnel from Greenhouse Megastore. But there are many companies out there. I got mine used on Craigslist for a great price. Do a search on this site. Many people have posted their homemade greenhouses, from work of art to usable temporary tent like structures. I myself use inexpensive cloches each spring to give my plants a head start.

the price is not the problem it is just that i´d like to have something convenient and elegant at once, if you understand what i mean.... so maybe if you´d take a look and tell me again what you think of that?? that´ll be great

Nice tent Chris, would you keep up year round? Do you get snow? You might want to ad zone .

A big welcome Chris! Your garden sounds similar to mine in that I like the romantic English look. Unfortunately, I do not have room for a greenhouse nor do I particularly need one. My yard is small and my winters mild. Why don't you post a picture of your greenhouse and then maybe we can give you ideas on how to make it fit your garden more. Post pictures of your garden also so that we can get an idea of what it looks like.

It is elegant. I did not see prices but I am guessing it is quite expensive. Personally I think it will not give you the light you need for good growing. What is your zone? Will you be adding heat?
There are many structures advertised in the back of gardening magazines that would be a real greenhouse and probably similar in price and more usable.They are in the line of English Garden type greenhouses which I personally love. I do not recall the names but many make custom designs which may be what you are looking for.

@Chris Young about where are you located, what is your climate and what is the style of your garden? The tent is cute, but doesn't look like it would hold up under really adverse weather or last for years like a more substantial structure would. Is this something you would build yourself or have it built? My tiny greenhouse that I have had for some years is nothing but a PVC pipe frame and I wrap it in plastic for the winter with a small electric heater in it. It has done very well, but last winter was abnormally cold and everything was killed. From personal experience, if you can afford it, avoid flimsy and go with something that is a solid structure that will last for years and be an enjoyment for you.
