Does your favorite tomato come from an exotic place?

Of course it does! Tomatoes first came from South America, we are told. Where wild tomatoes grow is near the ocean yet one of the driest places on earth. Rivers that flow through this region lose water, mile after mile. I believe this is one of the meanings of the word, exotic.

Kimberley, British Columbia is in a pretty wild place, as I understand. I have never been there, although it isn't very far away. This isn't a film about Kimberley, home of the little Kimberley Tomato, nearby in the same Kootenay Mountains.

John de Rocque developed the Kimberley, only about 30years ago. This is about a new find about ancient life, just a few miles away :). You will see what this place looks like. A very unlikely home for a tomato!

Looking at the url of the page it took me to and digit's url on his post. A difference shows somehow. Mine changes it to desktop#/watch and that's different than the post above.

Hmmm, wonder if it is a mobile link or some new thing...

I kept expecting to see a scraggly tomato plant clinging to a crevice in the mountainside. ;)

Wouldn't you like to camp there? Beautiful!

I did go to their website too. They have a really neat gallery of fossils.

Here is Spokane Street in downtown Kimberley, BC (link).

You kind of get the idea of the "alpine" nature of the little town :). Wikipedia says 3,670 feet elevation at 49°40' North latitude.

A little difficult to think of this as a home for a variety of tomato, but - it is!

It is a cute little, potato-leaf thing.

It won't disappoint me terribly if I failed in my crossing it with Bloody Butcher tomato. He's kind of a rascal, anyway . . .

Eta: Kimberley is just a few klicks up the hill from Cranbrook, Heather. That is a fun town to visit, too.
