I have waited until now to do the majority of my winter sowing stuff. Most because we can still get warm in Dec (ok no I am lying I was lazy). I started a ton of pink and lavender rose of sharon this last week (Thanks ducks!). But I need to kick it into high gear. I have a ton of cosmos (thanks Ron) that I need to get in and other flowers. So this week I used up three of the bags of seed starting stuff and I totally need more. And my lawn is littered with milk jugs.

The thing I like about the wintersowing is the lazyness. Plant do best when I have to touch them least. I blame the brown thumb so it works for me. I started all my cucs, tomatoes, squash, hibicus flowers like that last year.

What you guys winter sowing?

Google it ! You'll get way better info and probably clearer than my random ramblings try

http://www.wintersown.org/

The gist is you plant seeds in ventilated contains like milk jugs, cookie thingies, soda bottles and you put them outside and nature takes care of the rest. come spring when nature tell your protected little seedlings to sprout they should sprout.

Last year I planted most of my stuff using this method. I like the inherently laziness of it. -

Oh yes Sarah, go read up at wintersown. You can send them a SAE and get free seeds from them in return to get you started! ;)

OMG, did I see lettuce at Home Depot. Last year I planted Burpee seeds from Target. One was Simpson Elite and the other was Salad Bowl. These are known as loose-leaf varieties.

I planted about 28 seeds and only two sprouted and grew about two leafs each. Since the rest of my garden took off, I feel that something was wrong with the seeds.

I love my salads so next week I will be buying a couple of different type of lettuce for about two bucks a six-pack. I need a head start.
