I want to do that but I'm finding all different measurements on the spices and different spices. Anyone have a tried and true recipe they would post please?

I made it last year, but since my DH panics at the thought of sugar, I had to wing it, just making it to taste. I did put some sugar in it, but not as much as the recipes call for. I'm looking forward to making more when apples are ripe around here, as that was about the only thing I canned last year that he willingly eats.

I made ketchup over the last few days, transferred it to the crockpot after it cooked down to a little less than a gallon. It took forever to cook down, and I'm not real happy with it. Not exactly like Heinz.

But with the apple butter, just start out with a small amount of sugar and spices, and work your way up to what tastes good. :drool

I saw this version on Allrecipes.com that I thought I'd try. They have reviews, if that helps you any.

ETA: I also think it is best to add the spices towards the end...they stay true to flavor and don't get bitter that way.

Thanks for the recipe and advice on the spices. I've been down with a sinus infection and bronchitis but hopefully can get this done soon.

Starting with apple butter from AllRecipes.com.

Sounds a easy as I wanted. Slow cooker does most of the work and tomorrow it's done.

Thanks for that one.
