I just ordered 6 blue and 6 yellow flag water iris. I wanted to plant them on the bank of a creek. Eveything I read says they are highy invasive. Because of Ny long winters a lot of invasive plants are not too bad here. Anyone in the north have them if so have they spread uncontrolled ?

I did have some growing beside the pond. They died out at about 3 years. Probably my fault for being so busy at that time I didn't take care of the flower beds. I certainly didn't find them invasive where I had them.

I would say they will spread beyond where you put them along the creek. I see them here in Montana along the rivers we canoe on...i honestly couldnt tell you if they're escaped invasives or a native iris...but they certainly are located along the banks in places that no human put them...

they are considered invasive over here so we in NH aren't supposed to have them. just like the purple loosestrife my mom loves.

yeah, there is a substitute for it but it just isn't the same to my mom. but we luckily don't have it in our small pond. never really understood why parrot's feather was on the invasive list too. it usually doesn't survive in my area if i left it outside. if i had it in my fish tank in the house it will survive but goes into a sort of dormant state because of the low light.
