When is it ripe? This is my first year with spaghetti squash and not sure when to pick it.
One is about 10-12 in long and 6-8 in around and a creamy white color.

WOW, this is my first year also and it is just starting to bloom. I am guessing that it will start to dry a little at the vine but I am not sure. I would like to hear when to harvest for the future.

You want to wait until

1. It is a nice bright yellow

2. The stem is pretty well brown and dry

If you pick it to early it won't want to peel apart after you have cooked it. We will cut ours in half and clean out the seeds (those go straight to the girls!) and put a heaping TBLSP of dark brown sugar and about the same amount of butter in the center. Put it in the over open side up to form a bowl and bake at 325 until they will peel with a fork. This takes about an hour but i start checking at about 45 minutes.

ok thanks.

Well I cooked it up and it isn't bad.
Cut it in half use one of the halves
scrape out seeds
1/4 c water in micro dish covered for 10 min
let cool enough to handle and scraped it out.
Add whatever seasoning or sauce desired.
*note don't use that much water makes it too mushy.

DD11 and I fried up the seeds in olive oil with butter sprinkles and salt
they are AWESOME My DD11 cant wait for more seeds.
