Hi everyone,

Newcomer here - both to the forum and gardening in general!

I have noticed what looks like groups of black eggs on the nasturtiums and I'm worried they could be aphids. With one or two exceptions, they sit in clumps on the underside of the leaves, and the ants are crawling all over them.

Please could someone tell me what they think they are, what effect they might have on my flowers and neighbouring vegetable garden, and what I can do to (organically) get rid of them (if indeed that is what I should do!).

Thanks so much :)

You wouldn't have a 'mirco' option on your camera that would show it clearer? I can't quite see them to be of any help. :(

In organic gardening, nasturtiums are used as a trap crop. Aphids love them. The thinking is that they will go to your nas. and stay off of your food crops. Though they are unsightly, they do not seem to hurt the nas. plants. A hard spray of water will get rid of them temporarily. A spray off garlic, dish soap and water may get rid of them.

Welcome to TEG :frow.

The fact that the ants are hanging around them suggests that they are aphids.

Aphids come in just about every color.
